Classes are open for sign up! Added in a new 4 dog limit, 1/2 hr long basic obedience class for reactive over stimulated dogs. This class is to help reduce stress/anxiety, so the dogs have a chance to work around other dogs.

Happy Tails Training is excited to announce Basic Obedience classes on Saturday evenings in Remer, MN! These classes start May 9th 6pm-7pm for 5 weeks. Hosted by MJ Swentkofske. Cost is $125.00 for the full 5 weeks. They will be held outdoors, so be prepared for weather.

We had 2 graduations this week from Happy Tails Training. We had a basic obedience class graduate, even had someone lay down with their dog to "lead by example" I have to say they helped make class so fun! For our Beyond the Basics class, which is designed to help further the skills learned in basic obedience, we had our graduation day be a Doggy Sniff Scavenger Hunt @ Home Depot.

The only way to improve your dogs skills, is by taking them, and exposing them to different environments. Today the Beyond the Basics class took a walk through town, and they sure showed that they can work those skills in a new distracting environment.

Owning a dog, or any pet for that matter, there comes a time that you will need to care for them in their geriatric years. Our old dog, Neo, has now gotten to the point in his aging that it is time to evaluate his quality of life which will be done weekly following the attached quality of life assessment for dogs. As things progress, I will increase how often this will fill out this form. What you don't see is my side notes for each time I fill out the form. Each time this form is filled out I will include; date of assessment, any changes made within our house, any places we take him, and any changes to his medications. These notes are important to me, as these things can answer lots of questions from the vet, and give us a timeline to see what stressors could have possibly been a stressor to have a seizure come on again. This is also something I can keep in a folder and bring to his vet and show if needed. I will be honest, this form is not an easy one to fill out, it makes you open your eyes to the outcome but also makes it clear because just looking with your eyes a person can miss the bigger picture of making sure quality of life becomes the forefront of caring for your dog.
