Light and energy friends! Did you know that like yourself, plants need to eat in order to grow and thrive? I feed my plants at home and at the Mildred Norris Community Garden vermicompost from Wormies Vermicompost. It’s organic and provides nourishment for the plants.

This has been a difficult season because someone has stolen garden tools from my store and I had to replace a pipe that burst. Funds came from my personal account for the pipe. I love this little garden at the store and need a little help replacing garden tools and purchasing fertilizer in order to have beautiful harvests.

I am certain that Wormies Vermicompost would donate compost; however, they are a grassroots initiative and deserve to be compensated for their work and products. Please consider donating to support the Mildred Norris Community Garden where community members can harvest and take veggies and herbs, no questions asked at their leisure. Some places require a driver’s license, number of people in your household, income, etc., to distribute/receive food. I do not. Food should be free and all people should have access to fresh and organic food without question.

I love teaching food growing classes. In this session, attendees were guided through the process of how to make a pizza pot; a fresh herb garden that included veggies and herbs for pizza.

This is a unique and great session for groups, employee retreats, bridal showers, family reunions, etc. I would love to lead your group. Many sessions are available.

Cabbage worms wreak havoc on leafy greens. White butterflies lay their eggs on the backside of leaves and once they hatch, the worms eat holes in and devour your plants. I am an organic food grower and use methods that are not harmful to my produce or the environment for pest control.

Ladybugs love to feast on cabbage worms and other insects that attack the garden. Today, my live ladybugs arrived and I will release them into the garden at sunset to help with pest control. I will also add sugar water trays to the garden so that the ladybugs can feast on that until they get used to their new environment.

I will keep you updated on progress.

Water is important in the garden; however, where to water a plant is just as important. Plants should be watered at the base and not on the leaves. Plants are nourished through their roots; therefore, deep watering at the base is necessary for successful plants. Additionally, if you water leaves, the hot sun will “cook” and scald plants making leaves (i.e., collards, kale, lettuce, swiss chard, etc.) not edible.
