Barb Weiss DVM Chiropractic Veterinarian Barb Weiss is a licensed veterinarian who specializes in equine chiropractic. Barb Weiss is located in SE Minnesota. What is Animal Chiropractic?

If you have ever been to a chiropractor then the easy answer is that animal
chiropractic is the same thing applied to animals. Chiropractic therapy is adjustment to the musculo-skeletal system to realign the body to optimal neuromuscular functioning. All of the body’s functions are controlled by signals passing thru the nervous system. These signals allow for proper functioning of every part of th

e body. This includes everything from proper functioning of the limbs, to healing injuries and even proper tissue and organ health and function. When any part of the nervous system is impaired or “pinched” in any way it restricts the nerve signal from firing properly. This can decrease the full functioning of the muscle, organ or any tissue being innervated by those nerves. Chiropractic therapy works to locate these areas of impingement and “adjust” the body to proper alignment to assure renewed function and health of the body.

Seeing all the crazy ailments overtaking the animal (and human) world, I’ve considerably upped my diagnostic/functional medicine game lately.

What do all these things have in common?
• Metabolic Syndrome
• F***l Water Syndrome
• Bitchy Mare Syndrome (yeah, you know what I mean!)
• Laminitis
• Bug Hypersensitivity/Hives

Give me a call to find out 🙂

We’ve had very profound breakthroughs in all of these areas. Special thanks to all volunteer guinea pigs that provided feedback all winter. It’s been invaluable and very interesting information!

Hello! It's time for my 10-year Facebook update :)
Obviously, social media is not my game. However, I'm going to give it another shot! A lot has changed in the last ten years so, so stay tuned for more frequent posts to update you on where we are in the chiropractic/functional vet medicine world.

I would also like to note a big announcement regarding current fuel prices and supply issues: NONE of my prices will be changing (nor have they changed in the last five years). Didn't expect that, did you!? Who needs more price hikes? I am truly appreciative of all my clients and make every effort to keep everyone's burden light!

Here's a cool story I ran across about a BEAR (yes, a grizzly) getting an adjustment! YIKES! Guess I won't whine about ...

#1 Reason for Chiropractic Adjustments NOT to work (or not hold).......NUTRITION!! (anybody guess that one?)
Can't escape it! What's the foundation of good nutrition?.....MINERALS (that was easier)
If you don't have a decent mineral base your horse may struggle to maintain itself, not to mention support any kind of healing process. FOOD for thought:)

LEARN MY LESSON:

Ever had a horse pull back for no reason? I'm WONDERING if there might be a chiropractic issue with a lot of these horses! Of course I learned it the hard way. My boy (9 yrs old), had a horse go over backward on him earlier this summer. She went to scratch her leg, je**ed the reins out of his hand, stepped on the reins and went over backwards when she tried to correct herself.
We should have gotten rid of her on the spot (NEVER tolerate going over backwards!). But figured it was a fluke. Accidentally we discovered when leading her one day and bending over to pick something up with the lead rope pulling just right, she did it again. Not over backwards, but a strong reaction to the pull...straight back.
Maybe those horses have pain at C1 & C2. And it seems like random pulling, but they hit it "just right" and it hurts...bad.
Just a thought. Try a couple adjustments and see what happens. I've seen some good horses go down the road just because they pull back. That can be dangerous, too, especially if you have kids around.
Feel free to post your own lesson learned. Why not learn from others misfortune rather than wait to experience it yourself. That is NO FUN!!
