It's summer, which means more time outdoors!🌞 That also means there's a higher chance of finding abandoned/injured/trapped wildlife. Here's what to do when you come into contact with wildlife.

If you find a wild animal that appears to be injured or abandoned, please contact North Dakota's Game & Fish at 701-328-6300, and they will be able to direct you. Please do not bring the injured or abandoned wildlife to COFAS, as we do not have the supplies or capabilities to care for them.

UPDATE: Steven has been adopted!

When Steven first arrived at our shelter in March, he was in rough shape. Severely emaciated and suffering from a painful case of β€œhappy tail,” this sweet 2-year-old mixed breed had clearly been through a lot. His tail injury was so severe that he ultimately needed a tail amputation to finally give him relief.

But despite everything, Steven never lost his spark!

With good food, medical care, and lots of love, Steven has completely blossomed into the goofy, energetic, joy-filled dog he was always meant to be. Now, you’ll usually find him outside getting the zoomies, tossing around tennis balls, or trying his best to master the game of fetch (he’s still working on the whole β€œdrop it” part πŸ˜…).

Steven has participated in several dog playgroups while in shelter and has done very well with other dogs. We are unsure about how he does with cats or children. He’s an active guy who would thrive in a home ready to match his enthusiasm for life, whether that’s long walks, outdoor adventures, play sessions, or plenty of enrichment and activity to keep both his body and brain busy.

After everything he’s overcome, Steven deserves more than a kennel. He deserves a family who will continue helping him grow, explore, and enjoy the life he fought so hard to get back.

If you think Steven could be the missing piece to your home, come meet him today. ❀️

This Happy Tail comes from Hoagie's adopter! Hoagie was adopted a few weeks ago.

"She is doing extremely well! Lots of energy, loves to eat, and tries to run out the door every chance she gets. She loves to snuggle when she gets tired from playing too hard. She is still not sure about night time she does good for most part but eventually will whine looking for someone. But overall adjusted extremely well, and does amazing with the dogs!"

Congratulations Hoagie!
