conformation, obedience, rally, and agility. We strive to give the highest quality of training available while continually updating our training methods. We offer education for YOU - teaching you how to teach your dog to obey your commands. We believe in FIRM, FAIR, CONSISTENT training with heavy doses of
PRAISE and LOVE. Our methods are based on positive motivation and reinforcement.

Fitness Foundations for Dogs – Sunday, April 26th 9 AM to Noon

Do you love working with your dog and want new ways to build connection, confidence, and fun beyond your daily walks? This 3 hour, hands on Sweaty Paws seminar introduces simple fitness exercises that help dogs develop strength, balance, and body awareness in a supportive and encouraging environment.
You and your dog will work together performing reward based exercises using dog friendly props while learning how movement, coordination, and control all work together. These foundational skills support everyday life, healthy aging, and any future activities you may choose to explore.
This workshop is about understanding your dog’s movement, building confidence step by step, and strengthening your partnership along the way.

Who This Seminar Is For
* Owners who enjoy playing with their dogs and want fresh ideas
* Dogs new to structured fitness exercises
* Puppies at least 6 months old who have completed one puppy manners class
* Adult and senior dogs healthy for light to moderate activity
* Dogs who are comfortable working in a group setting around other dogs
* Handlers who want to build skills and confidence from the beginning

No previous sport or fitness experience is required.

Fitness for Sport Dogs – Sunday, April 26th 1 PM to 4 PM

We ask a lot of our dogs when they train and compete. Fitness is how we help them stay strong, confident, and prepared to meet those demands.
This three-hour, hands-on Sweaty Paws seminar is designed for teams who are already training or competing in sports such as agility, obedience, flyball, dock diving, barn hunt, or similar activities and want to support their dogs in a thoughtful, proactive way.
You and your dog will work through targeted exercises that build strength, improve proprioception, and support a healthy range of motion. We will also cover practical warm up and cool down routines that can be added before and after training sessions or competition days. The focus is on helping dogs move efficiently, recover well, and maintain balance as workloads increase.
This workshop helps dogs feel joyful, confident, and stronger in their work while giving handlers tools to train thoughtfully and progressively.

Who This Seminar Is For
* Owners with dogs currently training or competing in a sport
* Teams looking to add structured fitness to their training routine
* Adult (18 months or older) and senior dogs who are healthy and cleared for sport activity
* Dogs who are comfortable working in a group environment

Previous sport experience is recommended, but no prior fitness training is required.

Info About Darcy Roessler
I have spent more than 25 years training dogs and learning alongside wonderful teams who simply love working with their dogs. I founded Sweaty Paws to share that passion for thoughtful conditioning and to help everyday handlers and sport teams build strong, confident, and happy partners. I hold two canine fitness certifications, CCFT and CPCFT, but what matters most to me is understanding the joy and challenges that come with training an active dog. I currently share life with two Golden Retrievers who hunt, dock dive, barn hunt, and play agility, so I truly understand the commitment and excitement that comes with sport dogs. With a lifelong background in athletics including soccer, basketball, volleyball, and marathon running, I bring a team mindset to canine conditioning that focuses on support, steady progress, and celebrating the journey together.

During the government shutdown, the Grand Forks Dog Training Club is teaming with Oxford Realty collecting pet food to be distributed to area food banks. We believe that in these stressful times, members of the community shouldn’t have to make a choice between feeding their family or feeding their pet. Our goal is to help people keep their pets instead of having to surrender them because they are unable to feed them. We will continue to collect for the food banks during the shutdown.

There will be baskets for your donations at the following locations.

Grand Forks Dog Training Club
Oxford Realty South Office
Family Eye Care
Grand Valley Animal Hospital
Kindness Animal Hospital
All Pets Hospital
Petcetera Animal Clinic
Stay & Play Pet Resort
Ruffing It Doggie Day Care

If you are unable to bring food but would like to make a monetary contribution, use the following QR code. We will purchase the food and donate it.

Borrowed:
No breeder escapes this moment: the phone buzzes a few days after a puppy leaves, with a message you could almost recite by heart:
“We love him, but…”
Ah, the infamous but.
But he barks. But he nips. But he cries at night. But he’s “too energetic.”
In short, he’s alive. And for some, that’s already too much.
A puppy isn’t a living stuffed animal or a personal antidepressant. It’s a baby mammal, uprooted from its maternal world, thrown into the unknown. It will bark, cry, explore, and stress—and that’s normal.
Modern humans, however, don’t like disturbance. They want everything fast: their coffee, their phone, even their puppy’s “adaptation.” They forget a puppy’s brain is still learning emotional regulation through experience, not downloads or miracle TikTok tricks.
So overwhelmed families write: “He’s adorable, but he’s not for us.” Translation: We wanted a dog without the challenges of a puppy.
Even the best-raised puppies are still learning. They arrive ready to learn to love, not pre-programmed to love. And learning requires time, consistency, and emotional steadiness—qualities many humans no longer possess.
Some confuse the perfect puppy with the compliant puppy—obedient to their schedule, whims, or noise tolerance. When that fails, blame follows: the breeder, the breed, the dog’s “character.” And suddenly normal puppy behavior becomes a “problem.”
Breeders absorb it all, taking back puppies “returned due to lifestyle incompatibility,” re-socializing them, and repairing broken bonds. They brush trembling little muzzles and remind themselves: humans think they can adopt without adapting.
Living with a puppy is chaos before harmony. It’s the noise, the smells, the nips, the accidents, the doubts. It’s biology, not magic.
A puppy isn’t a test, a trial, or a gift. It’s a living commitment. What it becomes depends on you: balanced if you are, anxious if you are.
And if you’re not ready to give up your slippers and certainties for a few months? Adopt a plant instead. It rarely chews your shoes, and it doesn’t cry at night.
