It is with heavy hearts that we write this. As of November 9 at 6 PM, we will close up shop for the last time here at Grain Valley animal Hospital. As most of you are aware, Dr. O’Brien has been successfully battling lung cancer since 2018, and while he is still winning the fight, he has made the impossible choice to step back and focus on his health and his family. Doc has spent his entire life devoted to caring for the ones that don’t have their own voice, offering affordable options to the people that called them family. When he open the doors here in Grain Valley, it was his dream. In the last 13 years, the relationships built with so many “locals”, The warm noses and grateful eyes that have touched our hearts, and the community that has embraced him, his family and staff, have made all the years of hard work and sacrifice is worth every minute. We all call Grain Valley home, you have made us all “locals”, even those of us who reside elsewhere after hours. For that, we are so grateful, because without the support of the community, it would not have been possible to make his dream a reality. As we make this transition, please be assured that we will do our very best to be accessible to our pet parents. Although Doc will not be in office every day, you can reach us via email anytime, and we will be more than happy to fax or mail your pets records to you, or to another hospital. We will monitor online prescription request as well, and will approve them promptly, provided wellness exams are current. Please watch our page and/or website in the coming weeks for any updates regarding potential in-office availability, as well as where to find Doc, as he is  still considering doing a day or two here and there at other clinics, to relieve other doctors through the holidays. We will continue to try to make this transition as smooth as possible for all. Again, we want to express our gratitude to everyone who has entrusted Doc and all of us here at GVAH with your four-legged family members for the last 13 years. We will miss seeing all of you in our office every day, but anticipate many more years of being a part of this amazing community!

Today is Cook for Your Pets Day and we wanted to share this really easy and healthy Peanut Butter Coconut Oil Dog Treats recipe with you guys!
*Live Laugh Rowe

*Ingredients
1 cup all-natural peanut butter
1 teaspoon unprocessed coconut oil
1 teaspoon cinnamon
silicon paw print tray

*Instructions
Be sure the coconut oil is in liquid form. If not, place coconut oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook until melted.
Add peanut butter and cinnamon. Stir until the mixture is completely smooth and thoroughly mixed. The mixture should be thick, but pourable.
Pour mixture into a tray and freeze until set.
Carefully remove them from the tray and store them in an air-tight container in the freezer (they soften quickly).
