A Holistic Vet taught me how to feed to heal or support the body. Our Lab has a liver enzyme which is increased. Scans showed no masses, so we feed grass fed beef liver for added boost. Dinky LOVES his special treat and supervises the process!

Wow very interesting! And I personally love Dr. Karen Becker's products.

In the study, anxious dogs were given the medicinal mushroom Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) at a dose of 1000 mg per 10 kg of body weight (about 100 mg/kg) once daily for 28 days. This intervention led to a ~62% reduction in anxiety scores, with dogs improving to the point where they were no longer statistically different from healthy controls.

For families who cannot source Lion’s Mane, research suggests probiotics may offer a powerful alternative.

A 2025 peer-reviewed study published in the journal Animals (MDPI) found the probiotic strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP815ā„¢ naturally produces GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter that helps calm the nervous system by regulating nerve activity. Unlike traditional calming supplements, LP815 works through the gut–brain axis to support more lasting, natural calming effects.

LP815 clinical results in dogs (after 4 weeks):
• Reduced fear- and noise-related aggression
• More restful, consistent sleep
• Improved mood and reduced reactivity
• Better energy and emotional balance
• Faster settling after owner departure

That’s why when developed her one-of-a-kind canine probiotic, she included Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP815ā„¢ in PRIMITIVE PROBIOTICS™—a science-driven approach to rebuilding and maintaining your dog’s microbiome using strains inspired by wild canids, healthy domestic dogs, and living soil.

The topic came up 3 separate times recently so figured I'd jump on here to address....the dreaded "A**l Glands." If your dog ever released them in your presence you know the unpleasant fishy smell. 🤢🤮 But the truth is, if they released them on their own (even if was on your couch or bed) that's a good thing! Dogs release their glands normally during a BM, when excited, or even when scared. It's how they mark their territory and leave their scent. Gross, yes. But not to them. Expressing of the glands should ONLY be done IF your dog is showing signs of discomfort....the familar butt scoot, excessive licking, reluctant to sit, or turning suddenly like something bit them in the hind. Frequent expressing can actually cause damage to the tissue and cause scaring. So if you have a "leaker" or "squirter" stock up on some water wipes and safe odor spray, and skip the squeeze.

Yesterday I shared an article from Dr. Becker about the dangers of traditional Flea & Tick products. Today I'll show you what we have been using for 10yrs with success. And you can message me for other companies and ideas.
1. Topical drops applied monthly from Earth Animal.
2. Daily spray from Kin & Kind on legs and chest before walks. I spray on myself too.
3. If sitting outside in yard for a period of time, I throw on a collar from Only Natural Pet just for added protection.
Natural Flea & Tick products do work, you just have to put in a little effort. Our pets are worth it!

We switched from the toxic chemicals 10yrs ago!

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes blooming landscapes, longer walks, and the return of fleas and ticks. Many pet parents rely on convenient monthly medications to keep these parasites away, but new research is raising important questions about what those products may be doing inside our pets’ bodies and in the environment.
Before you give your pet the next dose, I encourage you to review this important new research on parasite prevention and the practical strategies I use to reduce parasite exposure naturally, support detox pathways, and make smarter decisions about when chemical preventives may or may not be necessary.
If you want to protect your pet while minimizing toxic burden this spring, check out my latest blog, link in comments 🐾
