Loves fetch - frisbee, ball, stick, water play with the hose. Does well off leash on walks in the woods. Plays well with the large dogs she’s been around, but has not been around small dogs. Does well with cats but will chase from time to time. Will chase chickens, turkeys, ducks occasionally but has never hurt them.
Absolutely loves to cuddle, is your shadow pretty much at all times. Adores children but gets very excited. She’s been around my 3y/o niece a lot and does very well aside from the excitement.
Commands - off, leave it, lay down, sit, here(come), this way (to change direction), load up, shake(give paw)
Does well on leash, I’ve always used a harness, and does well in the car. She’s a nester as has gone through a couple dog beds. Suckles blankets and has her own designated ones, and thoroughly enjoys removing stuffing from toys.
She is allergic to poultry and eats Purina One lamb and rice formula. She gets yak milk chews or natural bones. Steamed broccoli and pumpkin on occasion.
Does ok in crate for short periods of time if/when needed, but not extended time periods. She sleeps on the couch or floor/dog bed. If the kids are visiting, she will lay in bed with them.
Does have separation anxiety and does well free in our kitchen/entryway/pantry for a few hours at a time when no one is home. She will occasionally take a shoe/slipper when we are gone if one is left out but she doesn’t destroy it. Rather, she cuddles with it and one of her blankets on the floor or dog bed. She has never gotten into the litter box or trashcan. She will eat cat food if she can get to it. And has pulled food from the counter a few times but those were very easy adjustments to correct.
Our issue that we have not been able to manage is our 12+ hour work schedules, 5 days a week. Due to this we come home to soiled hardwood floors that have now have to be refinished and possibly replaced. Being in a crate for that long is not an option either due to her soiling there as well and being trapped with it.
She truly is a wonderful dog. Smart, loyal, protective just as the breed is meant to be. She was supposed to be my support for service related and DV related PTSD. I love her more than I can put into words. But SHE deserves so much more than she is getting.
