Where is that lameness coming from?

"I think it's in the shoulder doc!"

Picture this: You notice your horse has a lameness in the front end.
Two scenarios - it has come on over time or it has shown up overnight. In either case, it is often in the foot!

The most common cause of lameness in horses is in the foot, despite the way your horse may present the pain to you. For example, foot abscesses are capable of causing acute pain and three-legged lameness in a very short period of time. Other common instances of lameness in the front end that may be less acute are a result of changes to the navicular bone or surrounding soft tissue, changes to the coffin bone or joint, thin soles, etc.

As the old adage goes, "no foot, no horse!" and now you know why!

There are currently 6 active wildfires in Colorado. We have months to go before it cools down and the snow flies and even then we aren't free of the threat.

Being prepared is your best line of defense.

Have a plan, have a back-up plan. Have an evacuation route, have a back-up evacuation route. Make sure your family members and your neighbors know your plan. Have halters easily available. Make sure your trailer is ready to go. Be sure your tires have air, your hitch is accessible, your floorboards have been inspected and are strong and able to withstand the weight of the number of horses you think you will haul. Your 3 horse slant may hold 4 horses without dividers in an emergency.

MAKE SURE YOUR HORSE WILL LOAD ON A TRAILER!!!! Start working on those loading skills NOW, before you find yourself stressed and out of options!

Have your brand inspection, bill of sale, ownership paperwork, as well as photos that clearly show your horse, markings and identifying markings. Email those to yourself so that if somehow your home or vehicle doesn't make it you still have access to those documents.
If you live in mountain areas, especially, consider one of the many forms of ID that you can braid into your horse's mane or tail.

Remember, if you must turn your horses loose DO NOT LEAVE A HALTER ON!

Planning ahead can be the difference between complete disaster and just a stressful situation!

The dramatic increase in wildfire events in the western U.S. in recent years has led to increased awareness about how to keep horses safe from wildfires and how to respond when the two unfortunately mix. However, there are still many ways that we can improve our preparations and responses. We worked...

After 9 months of close management, with a less than compliant dwarf pony, we finally have a real sulcus.
Saturday's session was only 1.5 hours, 1 doctor, 1 handler, 8 tiny pony bites, 1 hole in the hand from the grinder, and 1 bruised forehead. We are making progress all across the board.

MyAnimalRX, the pharmacy platform used by Mobile Vet will be down for maintenance from 5pm on Thursday, July17- 10am on Sunday, July 20.

Why do we use MyAnimalRX as our preferred pharmacy provider???
MyAnimalRX supports small business. They allow Mobile Vet to run our own platform, with the support of our distributor, MWI. This allows our staff to monitor costs and assure that our clients are paying the lowest price out there while keeping more dollars out of corporate pharmacies.

Thank you to all the hard working folks keeping our horses moving!!

It’s ! Let’s take a moment to celebrate and thank our farriers!

Proper foot care is the cornerstone of maintaining a sound horse, and a good farrier is an essential part of your equine's healthcare team, keeping your horse’s feet balanced and well-supported. Farriers and veterinarians often work together for the best interests of the horse, so a skilled farrier is both a necessity and a tremendous asset. Be sure to let your farriers know they are appreciated!
