While I’ve been a dog groomer for 14 years, I’ve come to understand not many people know that I’ve been training my own dogs for competition much longer than that. So I thought I’d talk about my training journey and experience.
In 2003 I got my first American Eskimo, Jinx. I was in my early 20s and became involved in the Springfield Missouri Dog Training Club. I assisted classes as well as volunteered for ring help in the club events. Later, I became active in conformation with my eskies and competed with them for about 10 years. One of my eskies, Karma, also competed in agility and barn hunt.
When I got my field bred cocker I thought I had training figured out. I was cocky, and Joker taught me that not all dogs learn the same way and High drive dogs in particular need different ways to keep their attention. I explored new ways to get him to understand me.
Currently I am getting my young dogs ready for competition in Barn Hunt, NAVHDA, and agility.
What can I offer you, as a trainer? I try to keep my group puppy classes affordable and paced so that you and your young dogs do not get overwhelmed. My focus is somewhat on obedience skills, but more importantly it is about communication techniques to elevate your relationship with your dog. Basically, I show you how I train my dogs as puppies.
If group classes aren’t for you, I also offer private lessons on the weekends.
If I can help you out, let me know. My next group puppy/young dog class starts on May 3. It runs for 5 weeks (we are off Memorial Weekend) and it is $125. Feel free to text or call 7124040571 for more information or to sign up.
