People always ask why I like putting so many outside miles on these horses besides just arena work.
Last summer these young horses felt quiet, willing, and confident. Fast forward a year, and now they’re 3, 4, and 5-year-olds growing into themselves—and let me tell ya… I’ve had my hands full on the trails at times. Especially with some of these cow-bred horses. They get more reactive, more aware, and test things as they mature.
That’s exactly why I believe a truly broke horse isn’t made in just 30 days.
I love the performance side and getting one soft, responsive, and broke in the arena—but the trails are a whole different world. Water, wildlife, wind, movement, dogs, cattle, traffic, and unexpected situations teach a horse things an arena never can.
And honestly? Even performance horses need the trails just as much as trail horses do.
Confidence takes time.
A broke horse takes miles.
And the good ones are worth every ride.
