In this video you will see me working Joey a young German shepherd pup for the first time in a public setting on some off leash obedience . He is in with us for a 4 week board and train.

Joey came in nervous and unsure of everything. new people, other dogs, sounds, objects, fast movement. It was difficult for his family to control him on or off leash without him barking, pulling and lunging like crazy.

We’re now nearing the end of Joeys time here with us and through a lot of praise, Obedience training, and exposure. Joey has become a much less stressed dog who can now hangout calmly with us anywhere we go! Now we can use the commands we have worked on to manage his behavior in any situation. In the last few weeks Joey has become so much more confident and social. We can’t wait to see him continue to improve at home!

We take our learning here very seriously…Just ask Riddle! She’s hard at work studying all the ways to be the perfect pup!🔎

However The biggest secret to a well behaved dog is Obedience.Not only teaching them commands but holding them accountable for what they’ve been taught. For example a lot of owners will ask their dog to sit and stay, but when the dog gets up from the sit stay they don’t take the time to bring them back fix that.

The key to success when training is patients no matter how many times the dog breaks the stay You bring them back as calmly and quickly as you can and repeat. By not giving up until you get the desired result you teach your dog that no matter what’s going on sit means sit, stay means , stay, come means come, etc. also using lots of praise especially when you accomplish something so they want to continue that behavior!

Everyone meet Ripley the 5 month old springer spaniel puppy. She was born here at the kennel and has been staying here for the last 4 weeks for obedience training. Let me tell you she’s one smart dog! Every dog learns at their own pace. Ripley is super eager to please which makes training with her very fun for me! I have on and off leash trained her as well as e-collar trained. She came in a typical jumpy/ excited puppy, So how do we fix that? OBEDIENCE TRAINING. Sit stay means sit stay not jump up when someone comes to say Hello. Im sad to send this one back but we’re so excited to see how she does back with her family!

Love getting updates like these! Zen completed our 4 week board and train program where we trained him on and off leash. Then the work is up to you guys! and it’s important that everyone in the family is consistent with following through. As you can see here zen’s family is doing just that. (Look at that little snap back when zen tries to get ahead…I think we may have a new future trainer! Lol)
