It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a very special member of our Shawna’s Dogs family, Mimi. She passed away peacefully in her sleep last week.
Anyone who knew Shawna’s Dogs knew Mimi. Her story is one that truly reflects what this place is all about. Mimi was beautifully unique. She wasn’t always the social butterfly, and that was okay. She taught us that love and belonging don’t look the same for every dog. No matter what, she always had a place here. That’s who we are, and that’s who she was.
Scout and Mimi were truly a pair, and so many of us will forever smile thinking about them together. And of course, we can’t forget her beloved boyfriend Abe and his brother Floyd, dogs she formed her own special bonds with in her own Mimi way.
The number of stories we continue to share about Mimi, Scout, and all the dogs who have passed through our doors is endless. Each one leaves a mark, and Mimi’s is one we will carry with us always.
Mimi now joins her sister Scout and so many other friends who have gone before her. We know, without a doubt, they are all being watched over by our Shawna. There has to be a Shawna’s Dogs over the rainbow bridge.
One of the most meaningful memories we hold close was during Shawna’s time in hospice, when so many of her “dog people” came to visit. We shared stories, laughter, and tears, and every single story had one thing in common: Shawna. She brought all of us together. She changed lives, both human and canine, in ways that will never fade. She especially changed Mimi's life and brought so many together, just for her.
We are so deeply saddened by the loss of Mimi, and we are holding her family close in our thoughts. At the same time, there is comfort in knowing she is reunited with her girl, Shawna.
Run free, Mimi. You will always be part of this family 🤍🐾
