LewisCo HumaneSociety 501c3

LewisCo HumaneSociety 501c3 We are a registered 501(c)(3), EIN 16-1511904, humane society. We rehome dogs & cats thru adoption. The humane education bill was sponsored in March of 1917.

Our mission is to provide care, comfort and kindness to companion animals without homes. The LCHS works towards ending unwanted and abandoned animals through spay/neuter. We strive to ensure the animals in our care are adopted into loving, forever homes by promoting compassionate, responsible pet ownership. The Lewis County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was incorporated on May 7

, 1915. The purpose at that time was the prevention of cruelty to the animals of Lewis County. At the same time, the Lewis County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was also incorporated. Its purpose was the prevention of cruelty to the children of Lewis County. On May 26, 1915, a motion was made to consolidate the two societies, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and that consolidated society be known as The Lewis County Humane Society. The main purpose of the Society remained as the prevention of cruelty along with the support of humane education in the schools. The Lewis County Humane Society currently owns and operates a no kill shelter in the town of Watson in Lewis County, New York. That shelter is contracted with the townships in Lewis County to house dogs brought in from the townships by the dog control officers. The shelter also houses homeless cats from the county.

Please follow the new shelter page!!! Barb (new manager) and Cheryl (Board president) can't access this account due to issues with FB which is why the new page was created. Caroline and myself (Amber) are 2 out of the 3 who can post here but we no longer work at the shelter.

I know it has already been posted on the new page but tomorrow is Caroline's last day. I worked with Caroline for the last 5 years, she started just a few months after me and is now leaving just a few months after me.. so we have been through a lot together!!! We have cried together (even though neither of us will admit that), laughed together and built something up that desperately needed a change.. she was always down for whatever crazy mess I would get into and never hesitated to jump right in head first with me. The last crazy adventure was bringing in 32 cats all at once with an already full shelter. I looked at her like "s**t what did I just do?", all she said to me was, "I'll go get some kennels," skipped right away to get things done. I would always ask for her advice whenever I second guessed a tough decision and she would always tell me the truth in a gentle way. I know that wherever this path takes her she will thrive and accomplish great things! This decision is definitely not taken lightly, I know it's going to be hard adjusting to what life will look like away from the shelter. When you know you have to step away not just for yourself but for them too, I think it too is courageous... Letting go sometimes takes more strength then continuing to hold onto something you can't give enough of yourself to anymore... ❤️

Thank you Caroline for having my back and for being a part of what made the shelter what it has become today... You will be missed...

My foster baby Rink is still waiting for a home. I literally drive myself crazy thinking about any of my fosters having to wait at the shelter for a home. He's a little fighter and so full of s***k. Rink was found as a stray on fort drum and was pretty sickly. He had to be bottle fed until his upper respiratory got better so he could eat on his own. I think he's overlooked because he's not the type to go running up to you for attention but loves it when he gets it! I mean I was his mom so may have picked up some of my antisocial habits.. 🤷 (you can't win em all lol). Rink gets along with dogs and other kitties, he probably wouldn't like young children picking him up much though.. I mean I don't really blame him honestly. Someone needs to come adopt this boy so I can live in peace (that is until more of my fosters become available) 😭.... I'm telling you, your cat needs a friend and Rink is it!!!! Message the shelter Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 if you are interested!!!
Enjoy his before and after transformation!!!!

Too adorable not to share!!! This is Scooter (my foster) with his best friend Kadi. I'm sure you have all seen miss Kadi with most of my foster kitten pictures as she adores them all! The feeling is mutual for little Scooter he loves her so much.
He does have eye removal surgery on Wednesday and then will hang out with Sue to recover for a bit! I did cover up the eye because it's pretty rough to look at but it doesn't slow him down one bit! He is a riot and always into things, tearing around 🤣.
Little Scooter will be available for adoption soon and would love a home with a doggie companion 😍.

He would really like Rink to get adopted before him as Rink has been waiting for a home and is still currently at the shelter .. waiting 🥺

**Trigger warning**

On Monday night one of the shelters previous employees, Kelsey, was driving home near rt 342/Black river area. There was a church and a cemetery in very close proximity. She noticed a garbage bag on the side of the road and turned around as she had a bad feeling. When exiting her vehicle she found something absolutely horrifying. A momma dog had been shot and left on top of the garbage bag which was tied up containing her 6 deceased puppies.. 😭. The momma looked doberman in color (blk&brown) with the pointy ears but had a boxier face, the puppies where all brown/blk with a little white on their paws. The police were notified and went to the scene to take them to be properly laid to rest. They are investigating, someone out there has to know something. The puppies were likely a little under 6 weeks old. We need to find this.... 🤬 person ... so they can be held responsible!!! Please share and give us any information you may have!!!!

PLEASE SHARE!!!!

**RINK IS STILL WAITING!!!** 😭😭😭

My little Rink is still waiting to be adopted! He just wants to be everyone's friend and the other cats are picking on him 😭. My heart is broken knowing he hasn't found his forever yet. I always struggle so much with bringing fosters back to the shelter especially when they did so well in my home. I already have 6 cats of my own along with a herd of other animals, I just cannot keep them all. Rink did well with my 2 dogs, 6 cats and 3 other foster kittens. He played rougher with the two but was very gentle with Scooter who needs an eye removal surgery. The shelter is open today 2-6! Please please please get this boy outta the shelter so I can sleep at night without being overwhelmed with guilt... You can fill out an application ahead of time which can be found on lewiscountyhumanesociety.org and then email it to [email protected]!

If you scroll down a few videos you will see Rink when he first arrived... Well look at him now, competing for Gold. I may be biased but I think we have a champion in our midst!
Rink will be available soon so follow Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 if you think you can handle such grace and excellence!

When these two are ready I would love for them to find a home together forever!
I currently have 4 fosters but Scooter and Gru tend to stay together and I am so glad for that.

😭.... I gave the kittens some new toys to play with tonight. The three of them went nuts running around having a blast. Then I looked over at poor Scooter... He was standing kinda in the middle of all the commotion not sure of which direction to turn too .. you could tell he knew they were all having so much fun but being blind he wasn't sure what to do next. My heart broke when I saw him slowly walk into his bed and sit with his head down almost sad like he just knew he was "different". But then... Gru must have felt what I was feeling and joined Scooter in his bed and they began to play together.... Not going to lie, I cried 🤣🤷🤦

Follow the new page Lewis County Humane Society NY 501c3 to see when these babies are available. It will be a while yet as they are young and Scooter needs eye removal surgery still as well.
