🇺🇸Keep Your Pets Safe This Fourth of July!
While we may love fireworks, many of our furry friends do not. The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days of the year for lost pets, but a few simple precautions can help keep them safe!
❤️ Our Top Tips:
🐶 Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin. Close windows, curtains, and blinds to help reduce noise and flashing lights.
🎶 Create a calm environment. Turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help drown out the sound of fireworks. We’re a big fan of soft classical music, reggae & brown noise here at Farmhouse Kennels!
🦴 Offer a distraction. A stuffed Kong, lick mat, favorite chew, or puzzle toy can help keep anxious minds occupied.
🏷️ Check ID tags and microchip information. If your pet gets scared and escapes, current contact information greatly increases the chances of a safe return home.
🚪 Secure all doors and gates. Even pets who have never tried to escape may bolt when frightened.
🚶 Exercise earlier in the day. A nice walk or play session before the festivities begin can help burn off energy and promote relaxation later. We will be doing lots of playtime here!
💊 Talk to your veterinarian ahead of time if your pet has severe anxiety. There are safe prescription medications and other options that can make a huge difference—but don’t wait until the fireworks start. Get on it ahead of time!
🚫 Never bring pets to fireworks displays. Even confident dogs can become overwhelmed by the loud noises and crowds.
