It is a 24X7 job taking care of our dog Pepper who is 17 1/2 years old.

She still, luckily, doesn't like doing her business inside her playpen. However, we need to be there to take her out when she needs to.
And that's the tricky part because you never know when she does.

At night, more than anything, she likes to feel secure. She used to sleep with us under a blanket. However, that became unsafe since she could fall off the bed.

Last night, I wrapped her in a wool scarf and put my arms on her to make her feel loved. She dosed off :)

Summer heat may be quite dangerous for dogs. I usually take Pepper out in the shade for a very short time to take care of her business. I can wet her down to stay cooler.

A few days ago, my husband didn’t realize she was overheated. It took me 2 hours of holding her in my arms in an a/c room, wetting her with a wet towel and making sure she was ok.

Usually, she doesn’t drink water, only raw milk or flavored drink. Drinking too much raw milk, and other factors that day caused a weaker digestion at night. It’s all back to normal now.

What I fed her yesterday is in the comments.

I gave her a little at a time, to make sure she could process it without problems.

This morning, I have her some raw milk and some raw chicken for breakfast. She enjoyed it all and had a good walk.

Pepper is an amazing dog - always on a move. When she was younger, she liked to run.

Nowadays, I have to cradle her so she feels secure.

Almost 17 and 4 months now…
Pepper got up before 6 this morning and took me for an hour walk at a good pace of hers
I might as well live on a farm:)
Cheddar gets up before 5 am and needs to go outside and eat
Yesterday, both of them spent almost the whole day outside.
Btw, none of my furry companions drink water. Pepper drinks raw goat milk, and Cheddar gets his liquids from raw chicken

My husband or I hold Pepper in our arms for help her relax and feel secure going to sleep. It takes no time

I rubbed quite a bit of essential oils on Pepper’s spine this morning. It seemed she had trouble getting up. - her back paws were giving in.
Maybe she was still sleepy as Pepper has been walking up and down the porch stairs almost by herself.
To be on a safe side, I rubbed Valir, RutaVala, then dropped Sacred Frankincense on her spine, neck and back, massaging it in. I also held my hand in front of her left eye she has had problems with. Maybe she bumped it - who knows. All I am doing is supporting her body, mind and soul in healing.
Pepper lives when I hold her like a baby- secure and loved.
And btw, speaking of essential oils - the other day when I went hiking, got a mosquito bite. Itchy! Saliva and mugwort were helping, but only for a short while. Then I rubbed an orange peel- and the swelling and itching were gone!
