As you celebrate, please keep your pets' safety in mind:

🎆 Fireworks: If your pet is anxious around fireworks, be sure to pick up any prescribed medications (such as Sileo) before the holiday. A quiet, secure room with familiar bedding and calming music can also help reduce stress.

☀️ Heat Safety: With the current heat wave, make sure your pets have plenty of fresh water and shade, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave them in a parked vehicle.

🍔 Barbecue Hazards: Please resist those puppy-dog eyes! Many holiday favorites—including cooked bones, fatty meats, onions, grapes, raisins, corn cobs, chocolate, alcohol, and desserts containing xylitol—can be dangerous for pets.

🐾 Help Us Support Cove Animal Rescue 🐾

Our friends at Cove Animal Rescue recently rescued more than 50 cats & kittens and are in need of support as they care for these animals and prepare them for loving homes.

To help, Green Forest Veterinary Hospital will be collecting donations here at the hospital for anyone who would like to contribute but finds it easier to drop items off locally. The items currently needed by the rescue are listed in the image below.

Donations can be dropped off during our regular business hours at 120 Forest Ave, Glen Cove NY 11542.

🚨 URGENT SUPPLY DRIVE FOR RESCUED CATS & KITTENS 🚨

The City of Glen Cove is working alongside Nassau County SPCA and Cove Animal Rescue - all volunteer organizations- to care for dozens of cats and kittens recently rescued in Glen Cove. These animals need immediate support, and we are asking our community to help.

Most-needed items include:
🐾 Cat food
🐾 Kitten food (Fancy Feast Kitten Food preferred, but will accept anything)
🐾 Cleaning supplies
🐾 Small paper plates & bowls
🐾 Disposable gloves (medium/large)
🐾 Paper towels
🐾 Paper pellet litter
🐾 Garbage bags
🐾 Used towels

Donations can be dropped off at:

Today we are remembering Joan Phillips, former director of the Glen Cove Animal Lover’s League (now Cove Animal Rescue).

When we first opened Green Forest Veterinary Hospital, Joan welcomed us with open arms. She was kind, generous, and deeply devoted to the animals and the people who loved them. To say she was an animal lover feels like an understatement. Rescuing and caring for animals wasn’t just something she did, it was who she was.

It’s impossible to imagine how many lives she touched and how many animals she saved over the years. Her compassion shaped this community in powerful ways.

If there is a special place in heaven for anyone, it is surely for someone like Joan.

She will be dearly missed by all of us at Green Forest and by the entire Glen Cove community.

February is Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷🐾

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in both dogs and cats. Because pets are very good at hiding oral pain, signs can be subtle and may include bad breath, red or inflamed gums, trouble chewing, or pawing at the mouth. Regular dental exams help us catch problems early and keep pets comfortable and healthy.
