We've been staying busy and so has our supply closet!

We are getting low on a few items, including dish soap and pill pockets, which we use every day.

We are also in need of wire or hard-sided crates for medium to large-sized dogs. We use the crates to safely transport pets to adoption events, vet visits and transfers other community rescue organizations. Both used and new crates are welcome!

If you are in a position to send us any supplies, we would greatly appreciate it! You can find them on our wish list, and they will be delivered directly to the shelter: https://bit.ly/hcshelterwishlist

For any in-person donations, you can bring them to 10421 Woodman Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060. You can drop off supplies inside the lobby or leave them by the front door if you come after hours.

If you want to support us but cannot donate any supplies, please share this post! Thank you so much in advance!

When people think about the daily work of an animal shelter, they might not think of laundry. But with all the blankets, towels and cleaning cloths we use for bathing pets, cleaning the facility and making kennels cozy, we are constantly washing laundry.

Or, we were, until our washer recently had some maintenance issues. While repairs are being sorted, our shelter received help from an unconventional source - the Henrico County Division of Fire!

Coincidentally, Logistics Technician Vern from the division learned his niece began working as an animal care assistant and he dropped by to visit her. While Miranda gave her uncle a tour of the shelter and the animals she helps care for, she mentioned the out-of-service washer. Amongst many of the things Vern arranges for Henrico Fire is laundry service right in the same complex, and immediately offered to help us with our ever growing piles of laundry! Vern and Miranda posed with half of the fresh laundry that he brought back to our staff, with Vern promising to return shortly with the other mountain of clean laundry!

It truly takes a village to care for the animals in our community, and we are so lucky to be surrounded by such caring people. ❤
