Hi friends! As a lot of you have noticed we have been incredibly absent on social media. We have had lots of exciting things happening that we'd love to share! This will be a long one about upcoming litters, program plans and more.
We sold our home which was a demanding process to say the least. I was so sad to say goodbye to the place where we brought home our daughter... And to the place where many many of your puppies have been born, raised and loved on. They took their first breaths there. I fought for many of them to 'stay' in that house..only of which 2 didn't. π₯Ί But none the less... So many fun moments in that beautiful home.
But we couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase our dream land & home package. We purchased raw land and have started on our barndominium build. This process has also been so much harder than I think either of us expected. It straight up feels like we are on the Oregon Trail out here hahaha
While the shell of our home will be done before September it has been hard in the mean time. But we knew this going into it.
The pups have been in kind of a spot as well. They have a large fenced area that we made for them... They have their own AC camper as well but they aren't able to run free like they are used to because the rattlesnakes out here are Thick and very aggressive.
We kill multiple each week and the corgis are just completely oblivious to them. But we have been doing lots of walks and enrichment in the mean time.
But we are all looking forward to our home being up so we can start our yards and fenced snake proof areas for the kids and the dogs.
So what's new?
πΎThere is a potential for a SeeyahxSanit litter very soon. As many of you know we were planning on skipping Seeyahs next heat. However our sweet 7 year old son was trying to be helpful and put the corgis out in the morning and wasn't aware Seeyah had been in heat, as I usually handle it, and it only took literal seconds for Sanit to get to Seeyah.
While this is technically perfectly fine, it was the very last day of her heat so I am not sure if she took or not. I am hoping she didn't so I can sync her and Layla up but if she did.. It again is fine. However there is a potential this will be Seeyahs last litter. She has been a wonderful mommy and has raised some of the best puppies but for those that don't know me personally I am INCREDIBLY big on quality of life when it comes to program dogs. Some will breed their dogs for 8+ years...some only 1 or 2 litters. I go off of what is best for my girl. Seeyah and I are very in tune to one another. If for any reason I think she isn't bouncing back well she will be retired and get to live a fancy corgi girl life. But so far she's done absolutely amazing... I just really keep an eye when they have back to back litters as I prefer to give them a break after 2 in a row...let alone 3.
And everyone has different methods. Most breeders actually always breed back to back for the entire duration of the dogs breeding life. There's been scientific evidence to support this being healthier for the uterus. But I personally would prefer to do 2-3 and a nice break. So again not exactly how we planned it but life happens and we will go off of what we find in her ultrasound appointment. If she is pregnant our waitlist is currently full of folks who have just hopped onto it and also families who have been waiting patiently for a long time.
πΎLayla will be coming into heat... October-ish?
This is her second heat and she will be bred. We are SO excited for this litter. Truly over the moon. Anyone who knows me knows Layla is my literal pride and joy π she is the most amazing little love bug. I've never met a dog let alone a corgi more of a little lover girl. She just wants to love and be loved. Not to mention her build is amazing and she will have beautifully built, on the smaller side babies. All with amazing temperaments. Layla could be a service dog with how calm and emotionally aware she of people. I can't wait to share that temperament with a of you who have her puppies. We will get bluies, black tris and blue merles out of that litter and keep in mind Layla has a blue eye as well and that interesting green/brown one as well so I am excited to see these babies.
πΎ Boots from Diamond Corgis will be coming in October as well to be bred to Sanit. As many of you know again we are very very selective on who we let Sanit be studded out too. There are enough dogs in the world that are overly studded out and we have never wanted to contribute to that. So this is very exciting for us to finally be able to say yes to a stud opportunity. Sanit is an absolute rarity from his structure, to his temperament, to his genetics and Diamond Corgis has an absolutely AMAZING program. They really have been producing top of the line corgis for quiet sometime and actually produced Sanit. So that can give you an idea of the absolute gems coming from Diamond. This is a great time to look into getting a Sanit puppy as well if you aren't able to get one from Seeyah or Layla.
πΎ Lastly, life changes have definitely been coming at us hard. We are doing great and it's all been such amazing blessings but it's been hard to keep up. The biggest one being I have accepted an amazing career opportunity. This was not something I was planning on, but am SO excited about! It was just such an amazing opportunity and I would have regretting not trying for it as it is a dream job. I was fortunate enough to be actually offered the position and I am so excited to follow this path.
I have always been big on my career, before I even started this breeding program, and it was hard for me to make the decision to walk away from my career when we found out we were finally able to have our daughter in 2020. Which was the same year I officially established DK Coal Country Corgis aka DK Livestock LLC.
πΎ With that being said I will be really backing off breeding. This has always been about giving people access to QUALITY corgis instead of backyard bred corgis that often are products of people who were just tying to make a quick buck and threw random dogs together instead of going through full panel health testing, temperament testing and matching etc I know you guys have heard me preach about all the things we stand for and do.
πΎ We will really be thinning down on our program dogs.. And the amount of litters we have. Even if we only have 6 puppies a year... Those 6 families who get the puppies will have the best corgis in their entire life and that is so worth it to me. That's incredibly fulfilling to me and exactly why I started this to begin with. Corgis, of all kinds, can be absolutely amazing dogs if done correctly and especially if they have a great start and I believe everyone should have access to that kind of dog.. Because they truly are amazing.
πΎ We will be starting with Foxy girl and you will see her post tonight. Fox is absolutely amazing. But with this building process and going back to work full time I will not be able to do full training or assessments on her. As a puppy this time is CRUCIAL for her and we would like to get her into a permanent placement while she's still very young. Whether that is Guardian home or exiting our program for a forever family. While it is sad, I know in my heart that I am doing what is best for Fox and I find a lot of comfort in that. If we are not able to find her the absolutely most perfect placement we will reevaluate everything as my dogs always will come first.
πΎ This doesn't mean that one day I won't start breeding more full-time again as I know we have people all over the world who want a DK corgi and I LOVE breeding. But for this season of life I will just be slowing down to make room, mentally, physically and emotionally so I can truly excel in my new position. We will always be around and we have loved being one of the top programs in our area but are just rolling with what God gives us in life.
πΎYou'll still see us don't worry! You'll probably actually see us in your feed more now that our plans have been made clear π€
Love you all to the moon and back!
