Here was Uno's entire listing on the Internet Auction (IA)... and there really wasn't much to go on. A true 💎 in the rough.
There is a new online auction about to start and there are some incredible horses listed! I won Uno in the March IA and I am making this post to show that we shouldn't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover.
Looking at a horse listed online doesn't tell you everything- and Uno is the prime example. There's a reason I got this little gem of a horse for the minimum bid, and it was because he was poorly represented in his listing.
Why did I choose Uno? Well... Honestly I didn't have much to go on, but here's what I knew I wanted:
- A Bay horse for a project I am building behind the scenes
- I was only going to pay $125, the minimum bid
- I would prefer 14.3hh or taller
I had several horses saved in my favorites that met my criteria and as the last day of the auction approached, each of those horses received at least one bid, except for two. One of which was located at the Wheatland, WY facility (near me) and the other in Boise, ID.
The horse closest to me, only had one photo (a headshot) and two videos of the same time, just shot from two different angles. Very little to look at- and what there was, wasn't great. lol
All I really had to go by was the video... and honestly he looked the most stressed and possibly difficult to tame and train between the remaining two. But since he was so close physically, I would be able to get him sooner and therefore have more time to work with him before the Forever Branded- Branded Bonanza Competition in Missouri this October.
So I gave #5975 his first bid, and his only bid... and I won.
When I showed up to pick him up in person, he acted exactly like the horse I saw online- full of anxiety, never settling, and fairly reactive. He was exactly as advertised.
Because he was so wild in the corrals, he banged himself up pretty good getting loaded on the trailer- that's why his face is all marked up.
But... when we got home and he was out of that environment, he was calm enough to be eating out of my hand the first day. Within the next week his tag was off and he was haltered and leading around- all at liberty. You can see for yourself by checking out his other videos on my page here.
All of this is to say- 👉DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS' COVER!👈
Sometimes you just have a feeling, and other times, like for me in this instance, the universe guides you to the horse that you need.
So go check out the horses in this IA, the bidding starts on Monday. https://wildhorsesonline.blm.gov/animals/
Maybe you'll discover an overlooked gem like Uno.
