BEEF being the (B)ig, (E)nergy-(E)fficient, (F)ellow he is, allowed me to take his tag off tonight. 🥰
(He’s the one on the left with the little half star, Uno is on the right.)

He saw no sense in running around and followed Uno’s easy going vibe while I walked up to him and took his tag off.

Two mustangs in a row now are making things easy on me.

I know I have a lot of experience by now working with wild horses- including some EXTREMELY tough ones.

With those tougher ones, I am not going to lie, until I have the breakthrough with them, I flood myself with self-doubt.

It is SO nice to have mustangs like Uno and Beef now come across my path and remind me of what is possible and that I am capable.

Working with the tough ones though I learn SO much just trying to figure them out, and they end up being my greatest teachers.

Every horse is an individual, and should be approached as such. All have their place in the world.

The easy ones make me appreciate what I learn from the tough ones, and the tough ones make me appreciate the confidence the easy ones restore in me.

I am truly grateful to have these two bay boys in my herd now and can’t wait for them to join my legendary others.

So I did a thing… meet “BEEF”! Beef stands for- Big, Energy Efficient, Friend.

Beef is a 6 year-old, 15.2-3hh (guessing), Mustang gelding from Little Colorado, WY, HMA.

He is a massive horse with a sweet energy to him.

Beef comes with a bit of a backstory- he was previously adopted by someone back in 2024 but then in July of 2025 was repossessed by the BLM because his original adopter went to prison.

From what I can tell so far is not much was done with him by his previous adopter… or a lot was done… or this horse just really has a good mind on him.

At the approximate age of two, he was gathered out of the wild in January of 2022. Transferred to several different holding facilities, then adopted, and then taken back to the Wheatland off range corral where he has sat for the last 10ish months.

Last week at the Wheatland Adoption event, I won this Beefcake of a boy in a (not at all) competitive auction for $125… the minimum bid. Honestly still surprised no one else bid on this big boy, but I am so excited he got to come home with me!

Currently he is in the same pen as Uno and they are forming a club called ‘BBO’- Bay Boys Only.

The two Bay Boys are going to be a large part of a bigger project I am building.

Can’t wait to be able to share more as things progress.

Uno and I have been busy learning new things about each other.

Unfortunately some of the new things he has had to learn is how to hard tie… and I messed up and tied him in a bad spot.

When he was tied to the trailer, I had him tied too long and so when he pulled back, he was able to wrap around the side of the trailer and tear one of the running lights off.

Then when he jumped forward, he scraped his face on the metal clip that the light was previously attached to.

It’s all superficial, just looks bad because I was able to get some ointment on it right after the whole debacle and then he rolled and caked crap to the side of his face for a makeshift wild horse poultice. 🫣

References are available- you can even google me if you’d like😜.

Currently located in Gillette, Wyoming.

If interested, your horse must plan on staying with me for a minimum of 60 days. If it’s completely unstarted- preferably 90 days.

Please feel free to share this post.

I am also an insured horse trainer with Markel Insurance.

Shoot me a message here or pm my personal page- Lisanne Fear.

Thanks! Can’t wait to connect with my next (equine) student.

Today marks 3 weeks since I brought Uno home. ❤️

The top photo is right after I unloaded him and the bottom photo I took tonight.

I’ve been feeding him some extra things and I think he’s already starting to fill out a little bit more!

Can’t wait to see where we’re at another 3 weeks from now. 🙏

Here was Uno's entire listing on the Internet Auction (IA)... and there really wasn't much to go on. A true 💎 in the rough.

There is a new online auction about to start and there are some incredible horses listed! I won Uno in the March IA and I am making this post to show that we shouldn't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover.

Looking at a horse listed online doesn't tell you everything- and Uno is the prime example. There's a reason I got this little gem of a horse for the minimum bid, and it was because he was poorly represented in his listing.

Why did I choose Uno? Well... Honestly I didn't have much to go on, but here's what I knew I wanted:
- A Bay horse for a project I am building behind the scenes
- I was only going to pay $125, the minimum bid
- I would prefer 14.3hh or taller

I had several horses saved in my favorites that met my criteria and as the last day of the auction approached, each of those horses received at least one bid, except for two. One of which was located at the Wheatland, WY facility (near me) and the other in Boise, ID.

The horse closest to me, only had one photo (a headshot) and two videos of the same time, just shot from two different angles. Very little to look at- and what there was, wasn't great. lol

All I really had to go by was the video... and honestly he looked the most stressed and possibly difficult to tame and train between the remaining two. But since he was so close physically, I would be able to get him sooner and therefore have more time to work with him before the Forever Branded- Branded Bonanza Competition in Missouri this October.

So I gave #5975 his first bid, and his only bid... and I won.

When I showed up to pick him up in person, he acted exactly like the horse I saw online- full of anxiety, never settling, and fairly reactive. He was exactly as advertised.

Because he was so wild in the corrals, he banged himself up pretty good getting loaded on the trailer- that's why his face is all marked up.

But... when we got home and he was out of that environment, he was calm enough to be eating out of my hand the first day. Within the next week his tag was off and he was haltered and leading around- all at liberty. You can see for yourself by checking out his other videos on my page here.

All of this is to say- 👉DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS' COVER!👈

Sometimes you just have a feeling, and other times, like for me in this instance, the universe guides you to the horse that you need.

So go check out the horses in this IA, the bidding starts on Monday. https://wildhorsesonline.blm.gov/animals/

Maybe you'll discover an overlooked gem like Uno.

Uno has been out of holding for 18 days and he’s loading on the trailer like a boss! Although you can see from the video that we need to work on some personal space boundaries. 😅
