I haven’t been very vocal about Rei’s return to Gillette the last few weeks, mostly because I was waiting to see how it would go. I’m very excited to be able to say that after a week of being on some hormone medication, I have finally seen the Rei of three years ago once again. Today was our third ride back and she was so much more relaxed and mindful and I’m so excited to see what the next few weeks bring. ❤️

I got to visit Rei over the weekend. She’s back to her normal confident self and has certainly benefited from the hills in the pasture. I’m excited to bring her back to Gillette next week and try again with her in a bigger corral. We have a cautious goal of attending AQHA Region Two for the new English Versatility class in September, but it will completely depend on how Rei is feeling as we get back into work. More than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing her face everyday again!

I didn’t get a lot of pictures but I have to say just how proud I am of the 4-H Horse Youth kids today. It was brutally hot, 90 degrees already by 9am, easily in the 100s later on. But not one kid complained. The positive attitudes and determination that these kids displayed while showing today is absolutely commendable. I couldn’t have asked for a more positive and supportive atmosphere at the gate. Fantastic job guys, see you tomorrow for English and Speed!

We had a great week after all that rain getting back to a more regular schedule! Some particular standout moments were some kiddos from out of town who experienced the joy of riding for the first time, a student achieved a big goal of quiet jumps with her horse, and a new student just started her journey with English tack!

Being a responsible horse owner often means making decisions that don’t align with your desires, but are in the best interest of your horse.

Rei was not settling into the boarding barn like I’d hoped she might and in the last few weeks I noticed an increase in her stress and a general dissatisfaction. So, though it means putting my personal riding and show goals on pause, I brought Rei back to Buffalo to spend some time decompressing. Seeing her be so happy with Macy and room to stretch her legs I knew I made the right decision. Thank you so much to my wonderful parents for letting her hang out for a few weeks!

First schooling show since getting back into the swing of things is in the books! There was a lot of rust to be knocked off and we definitely made some chips at it, but there’s a long way to go still. Looking forward to continuing the progress!
