I’m so excited to introduce the newest member of our lesson horse string: Festus! A grade paint, he is an absolute angle baby who can’t wait to be loved on by students. He’s going to ease into lessons the next few weeks as he builds up some muscle and settles into the routine. But I can’t wait for everyone to meet him!

Our team has been rocking it in their lessons preparing for their first show in October. We have some fundraising opportunities coming up, but in the meantime if you’d like to help support Gillette’s first youth show team, you can donate here! All proceeds will go directly to helping keep things affordable for the riders as well as making sure our lesson horses are getting the best care possible.
Any little bit helps!

We did some liberty work for the first time in a long time and I’m so pleased with how quiet Rei stayed over the fences. Just a few months ago, she would rush the fence with so much tension. Now that her hormones are more balanced and we’re starting to take care of the ulcers, she’s so much more comfortable with life.

We still have a lot of polishing to do, but Rei and I greatly enjoyed our lessons with Kirsi Hussa this weekend. So thrilled with how much better Rei has been feeling.

I haven’t been very vocal about Rei’s return to Gillette the last few weeks, mostly because I was waiting to see how it would go. I’m very excited to be able to say that after a week of being on some hormone medication, I have finally seen the Rei of three years ago once again. Today was our third ride back and she was so much more relaxed and mindful and I’m so excited to see what the next few weeks bring. ❤️

I got to visit Rei over the weekend. She’s back to her normal confident self and has certainly benefited from the hills in the pasture. I’m excited to bring her back to Gillette next week and try again with her in a bigger corral. We have a cautious goal of attending AQHA Region Two for the new English Versatility class in September, but it will completely depend on how Rei is feeling as we get back into work. More than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing her face everyday again!

Sometimes lessons just need to be a braiding session and a quick ba****ck ride. Buttercup enjoyed his pampering session. Beautiful day to be at the barn!
