Three very different personalities in the salon today !

Stella was the sweetest little lady, Ares came prepared to leave approximately half a German Shepherd behind, and Buddy was simultaneously anxious about being groomed but so happy to be getting attention. He was very proud of himself when it was finally picture time.

Apparently today was a day for some pretty dramatic transformations
Dolly got cleaned up and shaped back into her usual haircut, Louie got a much shorter summer reset, and little Macho got a fresh new look — and somehow looks even more like a stuffed animal now.

Meet Millie! 🐾

Millie’s owners love a cute, fluffy teddy bear look—but Millie doesn’t exactly make maintaining one easy. 😂 She pants and drools a lot, loves swimming and mud puddles, tracks in said mud on a regular basis, and wears an electric fence collar that contributes to matting around her neck and ears. On top of all that, her combination coat tends to mat more easily than most.

So how do we keep Millie looking cute and teddy bear-ish while still keeping her comfortable and manageable on a 6-week grooming schedule?

We customize her groom!

Today, Millie’s feet went extra short. Instead of shaving only her paw pads, I shaved up to her first knuckles while leaving enough hair over the top to create a soft, rounded teddy bear foot. This gives her much less hair to collect mud and moisture without giving her completely shaved feet.

Her muzzle was left big and round but it’s actually quite short near her mouth and nose to prevent matting from forming due to her panting and drool.

Her body was trimmed to 1/2", while her legs were left just a little longer to keep that fluffy, balanced teddy bear shape. Since she regularly wears multiple collars, the sides of her neck were taken even shorter than her body to help prevent matting in that high-friction area.

Her ears are another trouble spot, especially around the base, so we keep them shaved—but leave little tassels on the ends for some extra personality and style. ❤️

Not every haircut needs to follow the exact same formula. I treat every dog as an individual and do my best to work with you to get the look you love while also considering your dog’s coat, lifestyle, grooming schedule, and specific problem areas.

Sometimes the best teddy bear cut is the one designed for the teddy bear who actually has to live in it. 🐻🐶
