The South is under extreme heat advisories for the next week, which puts our pets at great risk.

Heat stroke can occur when dogs are exposed to excessive heat for too long and can't cool themselves down fast enough. It is a serious, often life-threatening condition that occurs when a dog's body temperature rises to dangerous levels, typically above 105°F.

If you suspect your dog is suffering from heatstroke:
• immediately move the dog to a cooler location
• use cool (not iced!) water to wet the dog down, focusing on head, neck, and groin regions
• provide cool (not iced!) water but don't force to drink
• get your dog to a veterinarian ASAP

Our black-coated dogs are suited up for their second chance, ready to impress their forever families.

But here’s the truth: dogs with black or mostly black coats are often overlooked in shelters, a phenomenon known as Black Dog Syndrome. 🐕‍🦺 Many of these loving, loyal pups have waited far too long simply because of the color of their fur.

And July? It’s a HOT month to be stuck wearing a black suit. 🥵

Let’s change their luck.

Throughout July 2025, we’re offering $200 off the adoption fee for any black dog whose coat is at least half black and who is over 6 months old. This special applies to both local and out-of-state adoptions.

These dogs may be dressed in formalwear, but they’re just looking for a home where they can finally relax, play, and be loved.

"Hey, human moms and dads—here’s what happens to my paws when you take me out in the blazing sun ☀️ and the pavement is scorching! I sweat through my paws, and when it's this hot, I can't cool off because my paws are burning. Skipping a walk won’t hurt me—let me chill inside and take me out once the sun goes down." 🐾

If you spot someone walking their dog on hot pavement, kindly suggest they try it barefoot for the rest of the way. They might just understand how much it hurts.
