For my dachshund friends
I personally don't give my dogs pup cups but if I did, this is something that would never have crossed my mind 😯
Please read 🙏
I’d like to share something other may not know is a huge risk to our fur babies. This handsome boy is my best friends doxie, one of the puppies from my breeding pair. He is currently in critical condition at the emergency vet after having a pup cup from Dairy Queen. I’ve always given my doxies the occasional pup cup from coffee shops or Dairy Queen with no issues. Lots of people do. It’s not something that breeders warn people about. It’s not something talked about in normal vet clinics or even in dog cpr and first aide training which is the main reason I’m sharing here. The emergency vets acted as if this is a common medical emergency seen in emergency vet medicine for dachshunds. Because of the shape of their heads it is very difficult for them to lick the whip cream or ice cream out of the bottom of this little cups without getting it up in their noses. He inhaled it into both lungs and with in min of having the pup cup he started breathing funny and not moving and wrenching like he was trying to vomit. He has spent the night at the emergency vet in an oxygen chamber and has had to have iv fluids and antibiotics. His vet bill is currently close to $8,000 and thank God his owners have pet insurance for him! If your going to give your fur babies pup cups plz conscider asking for them on a lid instead of in a cup and plz consider sharing the risk with other doxie parents you know.
