We are excited to share that we have brought on a new Executive Director, Kara McCall, to lead the organization across all areas — guiding not only day-to-day management and staff supervision, but also the overall strategy, vision, and future direction of the organization. Woody Woodroof is transitioning into a new role as Founder, and while he will no longer be responsible for managing day-to-day operations, he will remain actively engaged in Red Wiggler’s work as a key advisor.

Kara has been part of the Red Wiggler community for over 15 years, starting as an intern in 2009. She brings both deep experience and passion for our values of inclusion, sustainability, and community.

Woody founded Red Wiggler in 1996 and has led the organization through 29 years of successful programming. He will remain actively involved in the farm’s mission and long-term vision.

We took our work inside on this rainy day. The peas had one last harvest, so instead of harvesting in the rain we pulled the plants inside and made sure to get every last one!

Hear from our Volunteer Spotlight: Kate Smith!

I found Red Wiggler through Charity Connect and couldn’t be happier! As a retired high school English teacher and previous Executive Director for Bradley Hills Village, I was looking to teach, learn, help, lead, and get my hands dirty. Red Wiggler Care Farm checks all the boxes! Red Wiggler is a sustainable farm where people with and without developmental disabilities come together to work, learn and grow healthy food.

I love driving away from the busy city and entering the peace and quiet of the farm. Learning best practices for organic farming alongside the staff fills me with joy. I joined in the early Spring just in time to see plants come out of the greenhouse and to help get beds ready for in-ground planting. As the season ramps up we’ve started harvesting for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) pick ups, it’s been so fun to reap what we’ve sown! Arugula, kale, and radishes (pictured above), are just some of what will be in the first boxes. I’ve met really nice volunteers and have gotten to know many of the staff. I benefit from the pace of the day and appreciate the teamwork that is woven into the program.

Our Story

Red Wiggler Community Farm is a sustainable farm and recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides meaningful employment and healthy food for adults with developmental disabilities (our “Growers”). Although Red Wiggler has grown significantly since its founding in 1996, our vision of inclusion has remained the same. From day 1, we have been focused on linking customers to Growers with developmental disabilities through the business of growing and selling high-quality, home-grown, organic vegetables. Today, Red Wiggler is a sustainable farm where people with and without developmental disabilities come together to work, learn, and grow healthy food.
