These are our personal dogs. My wife decided to take them both to the pet store to give them good baths. Part of her wanted to take them individually, but part of her wanted to see how they would do together. She put faith in all of the small things we did when they were puppies and boy did it pay off. These dogs were perfect!!

There are no secrets with this. A few things we have done: hand feed at least 50% of their meals, train with food, exposure as soon as possible, boundaries, crate train, basic obedience by free shapiing, did we mention early EXPOSURE…..the list goes on. Exposure comes in many forms and it starts outside your front door. The key is to expect things from your puppy that you would expect from a grown dog.

Taking the kids to see the movie Dog today. This movie features a Belgian Malinois. This is a breed of dog our kids refer to as “the crazy” dog. They have seen how a dog like this in the wrong environment can become hard to manage. We have seen some of the top dog trainers in the world have concerns about how this movie will portray this breed of dog and how people will decide this is the right “family” dog for them. We agree this is a real concern. We will let you know how the movie goes and share any thoughts we have after the movie.

Look at Callie girls focus!! We really haven’t asked much from her as we are working through some fear behaviors, but I’d say we have established some trust and she is laser focused when it is time. We still have work to do but the hard part is passing. There is no magic fix here. Just giving her time and clear communication. Now it’s time to have some fun and really bring out this girls potential.

Welcome Cali girl. This is a beautiful rescue that likes to jump on people to say hello. She also gets very aroused when she sees other dogs which can create some tension between dogs that can quickly result in a altercation. Our first session was simply hanging out together on a leash. We are learning her and she is learning us. Then we started charging the clicker with some hand feeding to see what kind of behaviors she would offer on her own. She quickly picked up that a calm sit and some eye contact brought her yummy food. Stay tuned for our updates on this pretty girls progress while in our program.

Ryan West owner and head trainer of Down Range K9 has been training dogs since 2018. He served 6 years in the Army as a Military Police Officer where he made deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. After the military he worked for several years in the financial industry before he decided to follow his passion and become a dog trainer full time.

Down Range K9 is a veteran owned and operated professional dog training business located in Southwest Ohio. Here at Down Range K9 we provide comprehensive high-quality dog training geared to meet our clients’ needs and enrich the human and dog relationship. We will accomplish this through providing an exceptional training platform that is geared towards puppy training, basic and advanced obedience, and also aggressive dog behavioral modification.

Ryan has completed The NePoPo Training School Silver Program in 2019 presented by Michael and Bart Bellon. He will be completing the Gold Program July 2020. He is consistently looking for opportunities to master his craft by strategically looking for different seminars hosted by some of the best mentors in the business.
