Friends of the Germantown Animal Shelter This is the page for the Germantown Animal Shelter in Germantown TN. We promote animal adoption, responsible pet ownership, and spay/neutering.

**MISSION**
The Germantown Animal Shelter strives to adopt dogs and cats into good homes as well as house stray dogs and cats until they are reunited with their owners.

**ADOPTING**
If you would like to view adoptable dogs and cats please come by the shelter during the hours listed above at 7700 Southern Avenue, Germantown, TN 38138. If you currently own a pet, you may bring him/her along to see

if the animals get along. You may also view our adoptable pets on our PetFinder site: http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=TN112 and the photo albums posted on this page. Adoption fees are $80 for dogs and cats which includes all age appropriate immunizations, rabies immunization and license, spay or neuter, heartworm testing in dogs and FIV, AIDS and FeLV testing in cats. Treatment for heartworm positive dogs are paid for by the city once the dog is adopted.

**VOLUNTEERING**
Volunteers of the shelter walk dogs, socialize cats, bathe and groom the animals. If you are interested in volunteering, you must go through a 20 minute orientation and fill out necessary paperwork. Those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult volunteer. You may call (901) 757-7358 to set up an orientation.

**COMMENTS, CONCERNS, QUESTIONS**
Friends of the Germantown Animal Shelter is a place of positivity. We are here to find homes for adoptable dogs and cats and promote animal advocacy. No profanity or defamatory language will be tolerated. Libelous, offensive, or demeaning comments will be removed. Questions about the shelter should be sent to the shelter directly.

Got an extra pet carrier? The Germantown Animal Shelter is in need of small carriers to help safely transport kittens to and from foster homes and vet visits.

If you have a used carrier (any condition, as long as it has all the parts), you can help:

Drop it off anytime at the shelter: 7700 Southern Ave. (look for the donation bench)

Or text Steve Morley, president of the Friends of the Germantown Animal Shelter, at (901) 826-7123 and he’ll swing by to pick it up.

It’s Wednesday, which means it time for another BB’s Tidbits, from the one and only Mrs. Doctor Professor BB.

Today’s Tidbit is all about the greatest race that has ever happened in the history of all dog kind. That's right I'm talking about the annual Germantown We**ie Races! This event is held every 7 dog years during the Germantown Festival. Now while I personally can’t compete because of biased judges, the race is open to all Pure Blood Dachshunds from all around the globe! They don’t just have to live in Germantown to compete. I did take it upon myself to test the arena! And while we are a month away from the grand race, I’d say the field feels, and smells amazing. I asked my servants to take a video for you guys.

Officially the races will be the first Saturday of September, 9/6/2025. Before the races will be the Best Dressed Hotdog Contest. I hear that is also something really cool to see! Who ever goes will have to describe it to me in luxurious detail since I won’t be able to “see” them. If anybody is interesting in participating in the races, please come ask my servants how to sign up. We have applications online as well as at the Germantown Animal Shelter.

We are so happy for sweet mama cat Miranda (now Olive) finding her forever home as well as - as of today - ALL of her kittens finding homes!!! 🥳💃🤩

Miranda came into the shelter on April 4th and gave birth that same night! Four months later, and she and all her kittens are out of the shelter and in loving homes. We are going to miss these wonderful babies at the shelter but we are so so happy for them and their adoptive families! 🥰❤️🐾

Hello! My name is Mrs. Doctor Professor BB

I am the mascot for the Germantown Animal Shelter. I'm popping into your feed to introduce myself and to let you guys know about my new series BB’s Tidbits. BB’s Tidbits will consist of goings on here at the shelter and helpful advice for my fellow puppers.
My first Tidbit is all about me! My full name is Bumblebee; I’m a 10 year old Beagle who can’t see nothin. That’s right I'm blind! The lovely staff here at the shelter treats me like a queen though. I go home with my new dad Josh, he is the one that watches me when i'm not creating mischief at the shelter. My favorite hobbies are sleeping, and playing Roomba. Even though i'm blind I still know my away around the shelter. I always know when the baby gate is open, allowing me to make my perfect, yet slow, escape. Since I can’t see the treats, the only way for me to really know what are in dog treat boxes and bags is to ferociously open them, and scatter them on the office floor. The front office is covered in beds, and I sleep in all of them depending on the time of day .

Anyways that’s me! Be on the lookout for more BB’s Tidbits, I have heard there is a special race coming up! I also heard Beagles aren’t allowed to enter, but who’s gonna stop me! I'm perfect in every way. Bye till next time!

🎉 The judges have spoken! 🎉

We’re thrilled to announce the winners of the Running of the We**ies T-shirt Design Contest!

1st Place: Leyla Salamova, a Germantown-based graphic designer and illustrator, impressed the judges with her simple yet functional design and will receive $500.

2nd Place: Tim Coulter, Germantown resident and business owner – $350

3rd Place: Meghan Turner, Germantown resident – $250

This year, the large number of youth (12-and-under) entries inspired the judges to add an Honorable Mention Award. Congratulations to 9-year-old Delaney Mrva for her thoughtful design.

All entries will be on display at the Friends of the Germantown Animal Shelter booth during the Germantown Festival, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7.

Thank you to everyone who submitted designs and to the talented team at Archer Advertising for reviewing more than 50 entries. Great job, everyone!

It’s that time of year again! Time to race those we**ies! 🏁🌭🐾

Registration is now open for the Running of the We**ies! This event is hosted by The Germantown Animal Shelter at the Germantown Festival. This year it will be held on September 6th, the first Saturday of September.

Registration must be done by August 28th if you would like to be entered into the Running of the We**ies, as well as our Best Dressed Hot Dog Contest. Only full blooded Dachshunds can be registered.

The pups will compete for fabulous prices that consist of treats, toys, and many other things! We have lots of donated goodies from people and businesses all across that mid south area that have contributed to the prize baskets!

If you participated in either the Best Dressed Hotdog, We**ie Race, or both! You should be receiving a registration form in the mail. If you are a new comer or don’t like waiting for the mail, please come down to the Germantown Animal Shelter and fill out a form! The registration is open to everyone no matter where you live, as long as your pup is a Full blooded Dachshund. Registration is also available online by going to https://germantownfest.com/ and clicking on the Running of the We**ies

Entry Fees for the Running of the We**ies is 35$
Entry Fees for the Best Dressed Hot Dog Contest are 10$
Those that register will receive a confirmatory phone call to verify that your pup(s) have been entered into the contest(s). If you do not receive a phone call, please come to the shelter or reach out by calling 9017577358. If you do not receive a phone call, you are not entered onto the race.

All proceeds will go to the charity(s) that the winners choose on their registration forms!

~UPDATE, I have been adopted!

Today a special feathered friend came to roost at our shelter! A gentleman was walking his puppy when he happened on this blue budgie. He is banded and his wings are clipped. We have him safe and sound in a cozy habitat with toys and treats. If he belongs to you, he is waiting here to come back home. We open at 10 am tomorrow and are open until 3. I know someone is missing his friendly companionship!

UPDATE: As of July 16, we have had ZERO entries for the We**ie Race T-Shirt contest! Come on, folks; last year we had over 20! The deadline is this Friday, so if you are even slightly interested, better start drawing!

Hey, Germantown! It’s almost time! Time for the We**ie Races at the annual Germantown Festival! And that means it’s time for our annual T-Shirt Design Contest! If you are an artist (or know someone who is) and would like to submit a design for the ever-popular We**ie Race T-Shirts, here is what we need from you:
Your original design for the back of the T-shirt, incorporating elements of we**ie dogs, racing, the festival itself, Germantown, or some combination of all four.
Designs can be simple or elaborate but must translate easily to a T-shirt design. Sometimes “simpler is better.”
Up to 4 colors can be used.
Designs should be submitted in either Vector Art or an Illustrator EPS file. We would also like your suggestions for a T-shirt color to compliment your design.
Your final design is due no later than July 18th. Designs will again be reviewed by a panel of impartial judges, and the top three designs will earn cash prizes of $500, $350, and $250. All designs must be submitted to [email protected], along with contact information and a brief bio of the artist. Questions? E-mail the address above, or text 901.826.7123.
