Scott County Veterinary Clinic

Scott County Veterinary Clinic Scott County Veterinary Clinic is a full-service clinic and boarding facility that provides care for small and large animals.

In January of 2012, Scott County Veterinary Clinic opened its doors once again under the new ownership of Dr. Karen Hancock Young. The clinic had been in operation for over 30 years until late 2010, in the capable and caring hands of the late Dr. Luther James. Dr. Young is a native of Lexington, KY, and is a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar, the University of Kentucky, and the Auburn University Co

llege of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in a busy mixed animal practice in Northwest Georgia for two and a half years and now has returned closer to home to serve the community of Georgetown. She will continue to provide the same compassionate care to all of your animals, great and small. We look forward to seeing returning clients and patients of Dr. James, as well as lots of new faces as well! Stay tuned for our website currently under construction and we hope to see you soon and Scott County Veterinary Clinic! We now have a brand new clinic, right across the street from the old one, and our new boarding facilities are up and running. We are happy to provide care for your furry family members anytime, and even while you are away. You are welcome to bring their own beds, toys and food, or we can provide them. Come by and check out our new facilities!

🦃🍁 Happy Thanksgiving from our family at SCVC to yours🍁

Today, we pause to reflect on the many blessings we are grateful. At the top of that list is our clients, patients, and community, as we simply wouldn't be here without you.

We are truly thankful for the trust you place in our team to care for your pets and love them like our own. Your continued support and partnership allow us to do what we love every single day — providing compassionate, high-quality care for the animals who mean so much to us all. It allows us to meet new faces, "boop" new noses, and love more than we ever have before.

May your holiday be filled with warmth, gratitude, and time spent with family, friends, and the pets who make your home complete.

From all of us at Scott County Veterinary Clinic — Happy Thanksgiving.
We are away today with family; however, we look forward to continuing to serve you and your family tomorrow and on.

🦃🐾 Thanksgiving: What foods ARE safe for your pets?
It’s tempting to let our furry family members join in on the holiday feast, but not everything on our table is safe for their bowls.
Many pet owners are surprised to learn that those fluffy, delicious mashed potatoes are actually unsafe for dogs. Even though plain potatoes are safe, our traditional mashed potatoes are usually mixed with butter, garlic, cream, salt, and seasonings - ingredients that can lead to pancreatitis, stomach upset, or even be toxic for pets.

To keep tails wagging safely, stick with plain, unseasoned options (trust us, they’ll still feel spoiled) like:
✔️ Plain sweet potatoes
✔️ Boiled or baked potatoes (no butter or seasoning)
✔️ Turkey meat only (no skin, bones, or gravy)
✔️ Plain peas, green beans, and pumpkin

❌ Avoid holiday favorites like stuffing, casseroles, turkey skin, gravy, chocolate, raisins, ham, fatty foods, and anything with spices, onions, or garlic.
If you’re ever unsure — when in doubt, leave it out!

Let’s keep Thanksgiving joyful, safe, and bellyache-free for our four-legged family members.

🦃🐾 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips 🐾🦃

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and food — but let’s make sure it’s a safe celebration for our pets, too! ❤️

Here are a few simple ways to keep your furry family members happy and healthy this Thanksgiving:
🥧 Avoid sharing table scraps – Holiday foods can upset tummies and cause serious digestive issues.
🚪 Keep curious pets out of the kitchen – There’s a lot going on, and accidents can happen fast!
🗑️ Take out the trash promptly – Bones, onions, and corncobs can be dangerous if pets get into them.
🍷 Leave the alcohol to the adults – Even small amounts can be toxic to pets.

A little prevention goes a long way toward keeping your Thanksgiving joyful and stress-free for everyone — two- and four-legged alike! 🧡

From all of us at Scott County Veterinary Clinic, we wish you and your pets a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

We totally get it, buddy - the excitement is real!😍🤣

As we head into this food-filled season of Thanksgiving, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the joy that a good meal brings (for both humans and our furry friends 🐾). For many, this may not be so easily fulfilled.

Additionally, remember — while we’re indulging in our holiday favorites, keep those turkey bones, onions, and rich table scraps out of paw’s reach!
NO counter surfing - doodles, we're looking at you!

Your pets will thank you with plenty of smiles like this one. 😄

🥾🐾 Happy National Take a Hike Day! 🐾🥾

There’s no better adventure buddy than your four-legged best friend! Today, we’re celebrating the joy of exploring the great outdoors with our pups, whether that’s a trail through the woods, a walk around the park, or a hidden path right here in Scott County. 🌳☀️

Getting out and hiking together builds a beautiful bond - strengthening trust, health, and happiness for both of you. Dogs thrive on new scents, sights, and sounds, and these shared adventures create memories that last a lifetime. 💚

✨ Hiking Tips for Pet Adventures:
🐶 Bring plenty of fresh water and a collapsible cup for rest breaks.
🦟 Keep your pet protected with flea and tick prevention year-round.
🐾 Pack some treats for energy and positive reinforcement.
🚶‍♀️ Choose dog-friendly trails and keep your pet safely leashed. Find an area that is safe for your families needs.

We encourage you to get out, breathe the fresh air, and explore the dog-friendly spaces around Georgetown and beyond this weekend prior to the holiday hustle. Snap a photo of your hiking companion or share your favorite local trail in the comments below — we’d love to see where your adventures take you. 📸💬

💛 Happy World Kindness Day! 💛

Today, we celebrate one of life’s most powerful forces — kindness. We’re reminded daily that kindness comes in many forms: a wagging tail, a gentle purr, a comforting hand, or a smile shared between friends (two- or four-legged). 🐾

Acts of kindness, big or small, create ripples that reach far beyond what we can see. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, adopting a shelter pet, or simply sharing a kind word, each gesture makes our community a better place. 🌟

Let’s take a moment today to spread compassion to people, pets, and ourselves. Together, we can make Georgetown a little brighter, one act of kindness at a time.
🐶🐱 From all of us at SCVC — thank you for being part of our caring community.
