We are investigating the death of a dog who died shortly after swimming in “Barking Springs.” The cause of death is unknown at this time, but could be from harmful algae. There is some algae near the shoreline at Barking Springs. As a reminder, we have detected neurotoxins in algae from all monitoring sites on Lady Bird Lake and from Emma Long Metropolitan Park on Lake Austin.



Advice for people + pets:
🚫 Don't touch or ingest algae
🚿 Rinse off after being in water

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for today between 12 and 8 pm. Please bring your pets inside if you are able to, and limit their time outside during these hours.

Call 311 if you see an unattended pet in a vehicle.
