A Big Thank You to Our Amazing Team! 🙌🐾

We want to give a huge shoutout to Jamie Loudon, Evan, Lindi, Lydia, and Sterling for their incredible hard work and teamwork today! 💪

In just 1 hour and 15 minutes, this dedicated crew:

Shoveled paths to all the outdoor kennels
Cleared spaces inside each kennel so the dogs could exercise and go potty
Ensured gates opened and closed properly
Cleared a path in the turf play yard to the meet-and-greet room
Chipped away thick ice on concrete areas
Made space on the driveway so wardens could safely get in and out of the van
As an added bonus, Jamie and Sterling repaired a kennel gate that had come off its hinge due to snow buildup!

Your hard work has made a big difference for the safety and well-being of the animals and staff. 🐕❄️ Thank you for going above and beyond! 💙👏

Pupdate!

We adopted Louie and Chewy (formerly Lassiter and Stark who are a bonded pair) two years ago now. We just love these boys and although it took a while for them to feel comfortable, they are now loving their new lease on life in Virginia. Not so much the snow. Thanks BCHS for all you do.

Pupdate!

2 year update on Chase! (Shelter name: Hamlet).
He is absolutely wonderful! Our hearts are so full with the love he continues to show the family. He loves his humans so much and he is very loyal and protective of all of us!
Chase can be found spending his days at home lounging in his bed or on the laps on his humans “because he thinks he is a lap dog”! He loves being outside playing with the neighbors dog (his gf) who was also adopted from Brown county! Chase loves his walks and just loves life to the fullest!
Thank you Brown County for trusting us to adopted this handsome guy 2 years ago! He definitely has his forever home with us!

Do you have a charity for your Kroger Community Rewards?
If not, would you be so kind as to choose the Brown County Humane Society? This is a HUGE way to help that doesn't interfere with your fuel points or cost you a penny.
The BCHS animals thank you!

Celebrating Our Shelter's 2024 Achievements. 🐾❤️

2024 was a year of challenges. If we are being honest, last year has been our toughest year yet. But it was also a year of incredible growth and resilience.
As we look back, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for what we’ve accomplished together. Here's a glimpse into our journey this past year:

🐕 Adoptions: Despite tough economic times, 213 dogs and 262 cats found their forever homes. Families opened their hearts and homes, proving that love knows no bounds—even in uncertain times.

🐾 Rescues: Our dedicated partners rescued 237 dogs and 187 cats offering a second chance at life and opening up more space at the shelters.

2024 reminded us that even in tough times, love and community prevail. Every adoption, every rescue, and every wagging tail happened because of YOU—our supporters, adopters, volunteers, board members and staff

As we step into 2025, we carry the lessons of resilience and the power of community. Together, we can create an even brighter future for the animals who still need us. We have always been a small village but a mighty one.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Let’s make 2025 another year of hope, healing, and happy endings. 🐶✨

We wanted to give you all an update on our Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

With the help of generous supporters, volunteers, grant funders and vet partners. We were able to spay and neuter over 1,400 cats and dogs, including over 1,000 feral and community cats in 2024!

We are gearing up for 2025!
BCHS spends hours and hours crafting grants, fundraising, coordinating, trapping and scheduling appointments. All so we can help people in our community get their pets fixed that may not otherwise be able to afford too.
We are thrilled to be in a position to help in this way. It's one of the most important rewarding things we do.

This little house is our BCHS cat shelter. It’s located not far from the dog shelter in a residential neighborhood.
Today our “nextdoor neighbor” shoveled our walk and the cat shelter’s one parking spot.
A small act of kindness like this
lets us know people appreciate the work we do every day.

Thank you neighbor!
