How Horses Beat the Heat 🐴☀️
Horses feel the heat much faster than humans due to their large muscle mass, and they can lose up to 3 gallons of sweat an hour on a scorching day! When humidity is high, that sweat can't evaporate properly, making it tough for them to cool down.
Quick tips to keep them safe:
• Provide deep shade and unlimited fresh, cool water.
• Hose down strategic areas like the neck, chest, and inside the hind legs where large blood vessels run close to the skin for the fastest relief.
• Add electrolytes to their feed or water if they are working or sweating heavily.

Help us wish a HUGE Happy Birthday to the one and only Miss Riley! This girl is officially hitting the big 9, and the ranch just wouldn’t be the same without her.
Riley is the definition of a spunky spitfire determined, full of life, and always sporting the absolute biggest smile you’ve ever seen! 😁 Whether she’s learning something new or just hanging out at the barn, her natural way with horses is truly something special to watch. 🐴✨
We’ve loved every minute of having her here at Cayuga Ridge Ranch, and we can’t wait to kick off an amazing, fun-filled summer with her! ☀️

Ever wonder how Mater stay hydrated with all these lessons?
• The Volume: An average horse drinks 5 to 10 gallons a day!!! Enough to fill a small bathtub!
• The Technique: Mater doesn’t lap like dogs. Instead he use his lips to create a seal and suck up water like a high powered vacuum.
• The Temperature: He’s surprisingly picky! Most horses prefer their water cool, not icy, and will actually drink less if it’s too cold.
Bottom line: If you’ve ever seen a horse "inhale" a bucket of water, now you know the science behind the thirst! 🐎💦
