Hello friends. If you’re stocking up on supplies due to the coronavirus please remember your pampered pets. If your pet receives medication please make sure they have enough of a supply to get them through a couple weeks. The same goes for food and treats. Luckily they shouldn’t need hand sanitizer or toilet paper because everyone is all out.

I learned something while watching Oprah. When you lock a door say the word out loud “locked“. It helps you remember that you indeed locked your door. Since I’m in and out of homes all day long it’s very helpful and it prevents OCD.

Audubon Zoo said the 3-year-old male jaguar, named Valero, was spotted outside his enclosure by a zoo employee around 7 a.m. Valero attacked four alpacas, one emu and a fox.....

Please be aware of a deadly infection that is going around our local area. One dog that I have pet sat for has already died. He went to a doggy day care in Geneva. Please see the following letter from that doggy day care:.... I wanted to send everyone an update on the virus that is going around. I have spoken to several vets and there is still no confirmed diagnosis--kennel cough or influenza. However they did tell me the outbreak is widespread and highly contagious. One vet told me he has not seen anything like it in the 25 years he has been practicing.

We have not had daycare for 7 days. The intent was to get through the incubation period of 3-5 days so that any dog that was potentially exposed will now be symptomatic and can stay away while shedding the virus. If your dog has not been in a public place frequented by other dogs (dog park, daycare, vet, grooming, pet store, etc.) for at least 5 days and is not symptomatic, they are welcome to return to daycare. Influenza can live in the environment and on surfaces for a few days so your dog does not have to come in contact with the infected dog--just travel the same path. If your dog did catch the virus, please wait 14 days from the date they started showing symptoms to return. An occasional cough may linger but they should no longer be contagious.

The good news is that the prognosis for most dogs is very good. One of my dogs came through it without any medication and very little coughing. My other dog had a severe cough and fever. He was prescribed Clavamox and after three sleepless nights where he was pretty miserable, he seems to be rapidly recovering. There have been a couple of cases where pneumonia develops so please be vigilant and reach out to your vet with any concerns. Greyhounds, elderly dogs and puppies are particularly sensitive and should be taken to the vet immediately if they show any symptoms (sneezing, coughing, fever, lethargy, loss of appetite).

This is a very unusual but difficult situation and I really appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we work through it.
