SPRING/SUMMER PSA:

Since the weather is getting nice again, I would like to remind everyone to check their yard for bunny nests prior to mowing the lawn.

Bunnies/Rabbits build shallow nests just below or on the surface of grassy areas (most commonly near bushes or trees; but not limited to those areas).

These nests tend to look like patches of dead grass (or ‘Dead spots’) in your yard. Underneath these patches will be the babies. They are covered up in order to be protected from the world until they’re ready.

Attached: Photos of these nests found online so that everyone can be aware of what they look like/what to look out for.

Thanks, Friends ❤️

It’s that time of year again! Remember to clean your feeders regularly!

It’s that time of year again! Remember to clean your feeders regularly!

Bird rehabbers get hummingbirds in that can not retract their tongue due to improper care of feeders and it is heartbreaking to see!
If you have hummingbird feeders it’s the time of year that that you need to change the nectar and clean them every couple of days! In this heat fermentation happens quickly and fungal spores & bacteria will grow quickly! Don’t put out a feeder if you can’t/wont properly maintain them, you will do more harm than good. 🖤🖤

Good Morning!!! Baby season is kicking off here in the south! Yesterday we got our first opossums of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that if you find wildlife in need of rehabilitation please do NOT attempt to give any food or water! As you can see from the photo below opossums are a perfect example of why we ask you not do this. They require tube feeding due to not being able to suckle. This is just one of the many reasons that food or water can be fatal to orphaned and injured animals. We would much rather get in a dehydrated, hungry baby, opposed to one who has been fed improperly, or given something it can’t digest (this is almostst always 100% fatal). By keeping them warm and getting them to a rehabber in a timely manner you are increasing their odds of survival!!

Elderly adult opossum was brought in after being found having difficulty getting around during the storms. She was given a quiet place to rest and get her belly full before going to Austin to live out her remaining days at All Things Wild where she will have a safe space and a full belly till she passes naturally. 🖤
