Committed to the job 🤣 Let me paint you a funny (after the fact), weather story friends, in light of the neighboring devastation
Haven is in Austin shopping with her cousins and aunt For a girls day.
We're overnighting at a ranch with horses, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, dogs and cats. It stopped raining for 1.5 hours after 2 days and 6" of rain so I took the opportunity to run out and check the ranch animals. One of the pigs got out of its pen and was hanging with the goats and the pasture is a mess with 4" deep mud and I'm trying to rush the fence fix and feeding before it rains again. So I get JR and Triton out to help me. We get the pig back in its pen, secure the fencing and drive a t-post deeper into the mud. We get that done before it starts raining, not too hard, went pretty smooth and the pig was nice. I'm feeling pretty optimistic at this point. 🙄
I fill the buckets while the guys take the feed to the correct places so we can move faster than the encroaching clouds. All we have left is the horses, the cows and the alpaca 😑
Haven and I came up with a system that *usually* works with the horses if they're pastured with the cows we shut the pasture gates and funnel one horse at a time through (otherwise, its slightly chaotic). I tell Triton to let one horse through, he does. Its the mildly spicy mare (the little one, you know what I'm saying); she trots up to her stable all nice and is suddenly like "I am NOT going in there. Theres water. Ain't doing it." I fought with her for 5 minutes and she just was not going to do it. So I decide "fine, I'll just put her in this little blocked off piece of pasture." And thats what I do... To prepare that piece I had to close some gates. To close the gates I had to go through mud. The mud there is shin dip, sucky and sticky so my boots got stuck, one left my foot and got mud and water in it all over my sock up to my knee. I couldn't move. Triton had to save me before I became like the horse in the Neverending Story. While the country neighbors got to hear me yell about how much I LOOOOVE the moment and my husband joked about about a free mud bath 😑🤬
The mare was standing in the driest spot like "wth are you doing, quit fooling around and bring my food."
I'm covered in mud. The other, not little horses 👀, go up beautifully and without acting like a diva and eat peacefully.
The cows and alpaca get their food and everyone (but me) is happy.
Its margherita time now, right?
The end!
