Manitou Farm’s miniature horse named Mini Mouse (aka Girl Ponig) was being taken care of by a young equestrian on this glorious Fall day. She learned how to properly halter, tie up with the quick release knot, saddle and bridle her new favorite horse. Grooming is always fun but picking hooves is a new acquired skill. Leading and riding was fun and included navigating the cones in serpentines, gait changes, sitting and two-point trotting. She did excellently and loved her experience today.

Inspiring Riders to Be Their Best

It is every riding instructor's purpose to instill an appreciation for, and understanding of the horse: physically and psychologically. A knowledge of form, function and progressive development of the horse's natural ability to perform to its utmost capability is the aim of the informed horseman.

All aspects of the animal's growth need fostering. To this end, my methods of training and care follow as closely as possible the natural inclinations of horse and rider. This includes herd (team) cooperation, playfulness (games), competition (shows) and travel (trail rides).

Close cooperation between man and animal leads to trust, friendship and healthy dependency. This union, once realized, is of the highest of attainments and can carry over to productive relationships in a child's future life.

I am honored to have taught horsemanship and riding to so many young children and teenagers throughout most of my life, since 1955. The comments I receive on Facebook are incredibly humbling and delightful as I learn how I’ve impacted so many people’s lives. Thank you for visiting and I hope to see you at Manitou Farm!
