Humane Society of Elkhart County Near Care Capacity: Public Urged to Adopt
BRISTOL, Ind., June 4, 2025 – The Humane Society of Elkhart County (HSEC) is nearing capacity for care as more and more animals arrive at the shelter each day. Our dog kennels completely full, and we’re seeing a steady surge in cats and kittens as summer begins. To give each animal the best possible care, we urgently need pets to be adopted into loving homes.
To encourage adoptions and help alleviate overcrowding, all adoption fees for dogs and cats are waived through June 14, 2025. Adoptions are on a first-come, first-adopt basis.
“We’re in a spot where we really need animals to find their forever families so we can continue to take in those that need us,” said Rob LaRoy, Executive Director. “Every adoption helps us create more space and give each animal the care they deserve.”
All animals adopted from HSEC are spayed or neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on their vaccinations, and ready to join your family. Now is a perfect time to adopt and make a difference—without any adoption fees standing in the way.
Please help us spread the word about this urgent need. Visit our website to see the dogs and cats in need of forever homes and learn more about the adoption process. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these deserving animals. Your support and compassion are greatly appreciated during this critical time.
The Humane Society of Elkhart County is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome, and advocate for the compassionate care of animals. Every pet comes spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines. HSEC is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm, and Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm. HSEC is closed on Wednesday, July 31.
