🐾 In Loving Memory 💔

We’d like to take a moment to honor a touching act of love and generosity from Susan Sommers, who recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of her beloved dachshund. In the midst of her grief, Susan chose to turn her sorrow into something beautiful by donating her pup’s favorite things to help other animals in need.

With the support of her dear friends, John and Carol Hufstedler, they were able to bring these cherished items to us, ensuring that her dog’s memory would live on through kindness and care.

In her pup’s memory, we promise that every blanket, toy, and treat will be used to bring comfort, joy, and enrichment to the pets in our care. Susan’s gesture reminds us of the incredible bond we share with our pets and the power of compassion even in the hardest moments.

🌟 Employee Shout Out 🌟

We’d like to take a moment to give a big shout-out to London, who recently received a glowing compliment from our volunteers!

They shared that “London is always moving and working non-stop, making sure our pets’ needs are met.” His dedication, energy, and care for our animals have not gone unnoticed and we couldn’t agree more!

Before joining Animal Services, London worked with the City of Garland’s Special Events team, where he helped bring events and celebrations to life. Just about a month ago, he transitioned into his new role with us, and he’s been an incredible addition to the team ever since.

London brings positivity, a strong work ethic, and an uplifting presence every single day. He’s not just a hard worker, he’s a great person to be around, and our animals (and staff!) are lucky to have him.

Thank you, London, for everything you do. We’re so glad you’re here! 👏🐾

🚐💨 Road Trip! 🚐💨

This evening, 7 of our lucky pups hit the road with the PINK Happy Tails Transport Team heading to Iowa and Wisconsin and one step closer to finding their forever homes! 🐾💕

Big shoutout to our friends at Friends of Rescue Animals for sponsoring this lifesaving trip and making it possible. Your support helps give these dogs the second chance they deserve. 🙌

🐾Shelter’s Closed, But the Dogs Still Get VIP Treatment🐾

We’re closed today for Juneteenth, but that doesn’t mean our pups miss out.

They’re getting the full spa day here at the shelter full of baths, brush-outs, nail trims, the works. Gotta keep ‘em looking sharp and feeling good.

We’ll be back tomorrow, but today it’s all about self-care. 🐾🧼

🐾 FOSTERS DESPERATELY NEEDED 🐾

Our shelter is experiencing an overwhelming increase in stray intakes and we simply don’t have enough space. 💔

We’re urgently looking for compassionate people to open their hearts and homes to foster pets in need. Even short-term fosters make a huge difference.

We’ll provide everything you need:

✔️ Bedding
✔️ Crates
✔️ All medical expenses are covered

All we ask is that you provide a safe, loving place for a pet to land while they wait for their forever home. 🏡

Fostering saves lives and it gives scared, sick, or overwhelmed animals a chance to rest and recover. It gives us time. And most of all, it gives hope.

📣 Important Reminder: Roosters Not Allowed in City Limits📣

We’ve received several questions lately about keeping chickens and other fowl, so here’s what you need to know if you’re considering backyard birds in Garland:

🐓 City Ordinance § 22.14 – Fowl
To protect peace and neighborhood harmony, the following rules apply within city limits:

✅ You may keep up to 4 female fowl (over 1 month old)
✅ They must be kept inside an enclosure
✅ The enclosure must be at least 30 feet from your neighbor’s house
🚫 Roosters are NOT allowed
🚫 No peafowl (peacocks)

Roosters and male peafowl are prohibited due to noise and disruption concerns. Violations of this ordinance can lead to citations and removal of the animals.

💡 Please ensure your setup is in compliance with the law and respectful to your neighbors.

Right now, our shelter is nearly out of the supplies we use every single day to care for the animals who have no one else.

Every towel we don’t have means a shivering kitten goes without a warm wrap.
Every empty bottle of detergent means a dog sleeps on yesterday’s bedding.
Every missing wipe means kennels can’t be cleaned for the next stray brought in from the street.

We’re asking, from one animal lover to another, please help us restock the things that keep our animals clean, safe, and comforted.

🐔💚 A HUGE thank you to Caleb Hughes and Troop 57 of Garland! 💚🐔

We are incredibly grateful to Caleb Hughes and the amazing Scouts of Troop 57 for building us a much-needed chicken coop for our shelter. Their hard work, dedication, and impressive teamwork made this project a reality and we couldn’t be more thankful.

This isn’t just a structure it’s a true gift that directly helps us provide safe, appropriate, and compassionate care for every animal we bring into the shelter, including our feathered friends. 🐥💕

Because of Caleb and Troop 57, we’re now better equipped to meet the needs of ALL creatures, great and small. Their efforts show how much can be accomplished when our community comes together with a shared purpose.
