Every day, more cats are coming through our doors looking for a safe place to stay while they wait for their forever homes. While our shelter staff works hard to care for them all, nothing compares to the comfort of a foster home! 🏡🐾

🐶🚜 Oversized Lap Dog Officially Claimed 🚜🐶

Remember our big goofy boy Rubble Watkins?

The one who never met a toy he didn't want to chase, the one who could fill an entire room with his personality, and the one who was convinced every person he met was his new best friend?

Well, we're excited to share that Rubble has officially been adopted! ❤️

After spending time winning over volunteers, staff, and visitors alike, Rubble has finally found the loving family he deserved all along!!! And from what we've seen so far, he has already settled right in!

In fact, we're pretty sure his favorite human weighs less than he does!! 😂🐶

One of our favorite updates from his new family was hearing what they love most about him. According to them, Rubble is so goofy that it's amusing! 😆❤️ From his silly antics to his larger-than-life personality, he's constantly finding new ways to make them laugh, and honestly, that sounds exactly like the Rubble we all knew and loved!

While it's always bittersweet saying goodbye to dogs we've come to know and love, nothing makes us happier than seeing them leave our shelter and start the next chapter of their lives surrounded by love!!!

Thank you to Rubble's new family for opening your hearts and home to this incredible dog. We know he's going to bring plenty of laughs, adventures, and unconditional love for years to come❤️🐾

🚨🐱 Our Nursery Is Running Low! 🐱🚨

If you've been following our weekly shelter statistics, you've probably noticed one thing...

The kittens are here. Lots and lots of kittens 😅🐾

We are right in the middle of kitten season, and our team is working around the clock to care for the hundreds of tiny lives coming through our doors. From bottle babies needing feedings every few hours to growing kittens that require extra nutrition and care, we're going through supplies faster than ever as we work to save as many lives as possible!

Right now, we're reaching out to our amazing community for a little help ❤️

Some of our most-needed items include:

🍼 Feeding ni***es
🍼 Baby bottles for kittens
🐱 KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer Formula)
🥫 Wet kitten food
🧺 Towels (new or gently used)

Every bottle, every can of food, and every towel helps us provide comfort and lifesaving care to kittens who depend on us!

❤️🐾 A Tail of Two Best Friends 🐾❤️

Here at Garland Animal Services, we recently had two very special cats named Horchata and Canela.

The pair were found living together under a shed, and when they were rescued, it quickly became clear just how strong their bond was. Horchata was pregnant with a litter of kittens, and throughout the entire ordeal, Canela never left her side ❤️

Because Horchata was expecting, the two had to be separated once they arrived at the shelter so she could safely deliver and care for her babies. As any good mom would, Horchata focused on raising her kittens while Canela patiently waited for her friend.

Once the kittens were old enough to be weaned, we reunited Horchata and Canela in our Paradise Room!

Despite spending time apart, the two immediately picked up right where they left off! They spent their days together, lounged together, explored together, and constantly sought each other out! It was obvious that the bond they had formed while living under that shed hadn't gone anywhere. If anything, it seemed even stronger!!

When adoption day finally arrived, a potential adopter came to meet one of the cats. As we shared the story of Horchata and Canela's friendship, he spent some time watching them together and quickly saw what we had seen all along.

What started as an interest in one cat quickly turned into something more! Seeing how much they loved each other and how closely bonded they were, he made the decision to adopt them both!! ❤️🏡

It takes a special person to recognize a bond like that and make sure it gets to continue! Thanks to him, Horchata and Canela get to keep doing what they've always done best, spending their lives together!!

Now these two best friends are settling into their new home side by side, and we couldn't be happier for them!!!

Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. We love every adoption, but there is something extra special about seeing bonded companions get the chance to stay together forever! Some friendships are simply meant to last a lifetime 🐱❤️🐱

🐐🐑🦅 Garland's Wildlife Bingo Card Is Getting Weird 🦅🐑🐐

These past few weeks have been full of some pretty wild calls for our Animal Services Officers!

First, it was a loose goat. 🐐

Then, a wandering sheep. 🐑

And now? Two injured baby vultures! 😲🦅

Officer Lopez recently responded to a call regarding the young birds and worked to safely secure them so they could receive the care they needed! While they may not be as cuddly as a puppy or kitten, these little guys are an important part of our ecosystem and deserve a helping hand when they're in trouble!! ❤️

Did you know?

🦅 Vultures can soar for hours without flapping their wings.

🦅 They play a critical role in nature by helping clean up animal carcasses, which helps prevent the spread of disease.

🦅 Baby vultures don't look much like the majestic birds you see flying overhead. They spend several months growing before they're ready to take to the skies on their own.

🦅 Vultures are protected wildlife and should never be handled by the public.

We're currently working closely with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator to make sure these babies get the specialized care they need and have the best chance possible at returning to the wild where they belong 💙

As cool as these birds are, please remember that if you encounter injured wildlife, it's always best to keep your distance and give us a call! Wild animals can become stressed when approached, and even young animals can injure themselves or others when frightened!!

Our officers have the tools, training, and resources needed to safely handle these situations while keeping both the public and the animals safe!

So if you see an injured, sick, or stranded wild animal, let us know. Who knows what Officer Lopez will be rescuing next week! 😆🐾
