Even with the rainy days, when you’re arena looks like a swamp; there is still so much you can learn educationally that does not involve riding a horse. Look at our students today who showed up. They did a unmounted lesson that included a refresher on all major parts of the horse learned about muscular skeletal regions, major tendons, and how to properly put on jumping boots and pollo wraps!!!

Friday evening lessons with our head riding instructor Alexander Hartdegen!!

Boxed-in-Hexagon

Benefits and Techniques
Flexibility and Strength: The exercise encourages the horse to step under with the inside hind leg.
Improved Straightness: Riding straight lines through the inner square forces the horse to pay attention to its footfall.
Variety of Lines: Riders can practice riding straight lines (on the diagonal) through the inner square and more complex, bending lines (on the circle) through the outer hexagon.
Focus on Bending: The hexagonal layout is particularly effective for training the horse to maintain the same bend throughout the entire maneuver.
Suitable for All Gaits: This setup is effective at walk, trot, and canter, allowing for progression.

Fun Facts/Did you know: Hunter and hunter-jumper riding grew out of traditional fox hunting in England. Riders needed horses that could travel smoothly across the countryside, jump natural obstacles, and maintain a steady, comfortable pace for long hours. Today’s hunter discipline reflects those roots by rewarding calm, rhythmic movement, good manners, and a smooth, efficient jumping style. While modern shows take place in an arena, the emphasis on elegance, consistency, and partnership comes directly from fox hunting tradition.

Here I am, going back to where it all started!! From traditional fox hunting atire to the natural jumps. Fox Hunting with Cloudline Hounds in Celeste, TX.

Nitro’s eye treatments are over and his lavage was removed this afternoon. He was turned out in pasture for the first time in 10 weeks. It’s so heartwarming to see him so happy! 😁 Rocking J Stables
