I’ve been riding, hiking and walking in this area just out from my house for 30 years and not once in all the many times I’ve encountered the wild ones have I been intimidated or challenged by them. (I take that back, there was one time about 10 years ago a lone stallion came galloping down one of the hills to check Ash and me out). He was not threatening. Just young and curious but it was enough to get us nervous.
Now we have Bowie. I’ve watched him amble all over the area with Old Socks for a couple years and he’s been calm and wary as he goes by the house. Today was the second time he’s come charging at us in as many months. We rode up the hill from the left and were going to do our usual short ride loop when we spotted them. Bowie now has 5 mares!
Keeping an eye on where they were moving towards we went out of our way to avoid them. Even solid Mr. Yanni had a few moments of nerves and Bella was staying close to him.
Bowie still ran towards us but we kept moving away from him and I did give a warning yell at him. He stopped but we didn’t let him out of our sight for fear he’d run up behind us.
Phew! Getting home was exciting this evening!

It’s hard for me to understand why someone would do this. Just dump a carcass.
