While I have never re-opened my pet sitting business since moving to Salina, I have been volunteering for Western Plains Animal Refuge out of Hays, KS. My most recent houseguest was an injured adult Grackle. His leg is clearly broke and he is unable to fly. He went to the wildlife rehabber today.

If this kind of thing interests you, they could use volunteers from anywhere in Western Kansas! Things I do as a volunteer include temporarily housing and caring for an in need animal until transport can pick it up, transport driving, sharing information about their organization to help spread the word, recruitting other volunteers, donations for supplies, etc. Animals reward you in a way no other human can, and I absolutely love helping out Brendon and Western Plains take care of our area wildlife.

Phew, it’s been a while since we’ve shared a Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that even an indoor only cat can get fleas? If your indoor only cat is in the same home as a dog or another cat that goes outside, your indoor cat can still get fleas. Fleas can even jump onto your clothing and hitch a ride into the house to start an infestation. Yuck!!
