🐾 “But the kitten looks healthy…” 🐾
One of the biggest mistakes people make when bringing home a new kitten is introducing them to resident pets right away.
The problem? Many illnesses don’t show symptoms immediately.
A kitten can appear perfectly healthy while carrying:
🐱 Upper Respiratory Infections
🐱 Ringworm
🐱 Fleas or Ear Mites
🐱 Intestinal Parasites
🐱 Coccidia or Giardia
🐱 Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper)
🐱 Other contagious diseases
That’s why reputable rescues and experienced fosters recommend a minimum 14-day quarantine period for all new arrivals.
A quarantine isn’t punishment—it’s protection.
It gives the kitten time to:
✔ Adjust to their new environment
✔ Receive proper veterinary care
✔ Complete parasite treatments
✔ Show any symptoms that may have been hidden by stress or incubation periods
And most importantly, it protects the animals already living in your home.
We’ve seen firsthand how quickly illnesses can spread through a household, turning one seemingly healthy kitten into multiple sick pets and costly vet visits.
A little patience now can save a lot of heartbreak later.
🐾 When bringing home a new pet, quarantine first, introductions later. Your current pets—and your new kitten—deserve that protection.
