4-H helps grow and develop so many individuals love for animals. We are also proud to say Becca our LVT went through this program and now helps with all of our EMAH patients!
Feel good Friday - Becca L. shares here 4-H then and now story:
How it started: I knew from a very young age that animals were going to be a huge part of my life. I grew up with dogs, cats, bunnies, and chickens. The animal that really stuck with me was the horse. I was on a horse from a very young age literally spending every free time I had in a barn or riding around a pasture. I was very fortunate enough to have an amazing family take me under their wing which eventually lead me to being involved with 4-H and joining my community horse club. I was in 4-H from my middle school years all the way up to my first year in college. I would get so excited when the end of summer came around because that meant fair time was here. There’s something about owning a horse, working with it for the whole summer, caring for it at a young age, and then finally being able to put all that hard work and knowledge to work. I continued to love animals and knew that one day it would become my job working with them.
How it’s going: When I graduated high school I started taking all my prerequisites at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in hopes of getting into Michigan State University into their Veterinary Technician Program. All my hard work paid off as I soon was diving head first into a very tough but rewarding program. I couldn’t help but look back at my time in 4-H and smile a little knowing that path got me here today. The experience and knowledge I gained was unlike anything else. It only grew my passion for working with such amazing creatures (small and big). After graduation in 2021 from MSU I started working at a small animal clinic and haven’t looked back. I truly hope my kids will get to enjoy and be involved in 4-H because it’s such a rewarding experience.
