BARCS OUT OF SPACE: In a little more than 48 hours, 100 new animals have entered BARCS—both dogs and cats. We are completely out of space for dogs and nearly out of space for cats. It has been four months since our shelter reached this point, but we know what comes next. The warmer seasons always bring an influx of animals in need, and last week’s weather tells us that we are about to enter the emergency portion of the year.

Right now, our team is working tirelessly to provide care, comfort, and safety to every new animal entering our shelter. We are doing everything possible to make space, but we can’t do it alone. Only our community can help animals leave safely—opening kennels for the next arrivals and preventing the heartbreaking reality of euthanasia for space. This is a decision our staff and volunteers never want to face, but without urgent action, we will have no choice.

Here’s how you can help today:

🐾 Adopt: Adoption fees are waived starting today through the weekend. Every adoption includes a spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccines.

🐾 Foster: We urgently need fosters, especially for large adult dogs. Even short-term fostering saves lives by freeing up kennel space.

🐾 Donate: The costs of caring for 100 new animals—feeding them, providing medical treatment, and keeping them safe—are already mounting. Every dollar makes a difference.

🐾 Rescue Partners: Rescue partners are needed to pull animals from the shelter. If you are an existing partner, please reach out to help. If you are a rescue but not an existing partner, please contact our Rescue Coordinator ([email protected]) to fill out an application.

BARCS is committed to showing every animal that this isn’t their last stop—it’s the start of something better. But we need your help to make that happen.

Remember Nox? This sweet boy has been living in foster with his wonderful foster parents. He is doing great and ready to find his forever home. In foster Nox loves spending time with his people, and lets them know when he is ready to hang out. He is a good eater, uses the litter box well and loves lounging in his cat tree. Nox is a bit shy, and doesn’t like loud noises. But once his foster parents make him feel safe is he does well.
