Why do we perform echocardiograms on our breeding cats? ❤️🐾
One of the most important health screenings for Maine C***s is an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound). This painless, non-invasive test allows a veterinary cardiologist to evaluate the heart for signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)—the most common inherited heart disease in the breed.
While no screening can guarantee a cat will never develop HCM, routine echocardiograms help us make informed breeding decisions and reduce the risk of passing heart disease to future generations.
