Good afternoon everyone,
Over Memorial Day weekend, a tree fell onto our fence sometime on Monday. We immediately began working on repairs, but discovered a live electrical wire tangled in the fallen branches, making it unsafe to begin cutting or cleanup.
We contacted Gainesville Regional Utilities yesterday, and they came out to disconnect the power and remove the wire from the tree. During the inspection, it was discovered that the tree also damaged the power pole connected to our pump house, which controls the water supply at the park.
We then worked to coordinate an electrician to reset the pole and repair the electrical damage. As of today, we have received safety clearance to begin cutting and removing the tree. The electrician left about 20 minutes ago to pick up materials and begin repairs. We are hoping to have water restored later this afternoon, or as soon as GRU is able to reconnect power.
We are also beginning work on the tree removal and fence repairs this afternoon, and we are hopeful those repairs can be completed today as well.
Until repairs are complete, please bring water for your dog while visiting the park. If possible, we also ask that members spend time in the front pond area while crews are working near the damaged section.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding during this unexpected situation. Unfortunately, fallen trees and weather-related events are outside of our control, but we take the safety of our members and your dogs very seriously and are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore everything.
We truly appreciate your support,
The MLD Family
