Lakeview Academy Summer Horse Camp at Hillmar Farm

The Lakeview Academy Summer Horse Camp at Hillmar Farm was a huge success! Campers spent last week immersed in all things equine—learning about hoof care from our farrier, horse nutrition, tack parts, and how to properly groom, tack, and untack.

Riders were introduced to the basics of riding aboard Lilac, Whinny, Rufus, and Hope, then took a scenic walk on the cross-country course. Afterward, they cooled the horses down with refreshing baths in the Georgia heat.

Camp fun didn’t stop at the barn—campers got creative painting on Rufus and Savannah and crafted pool noodle stick horses for a final ride through the obstacle course.

A big thank you to assistant trainer Erik Eveleth for organizing and leading such an engaging week, and to counselors Hudson and Adeline for their incredible help and energy!

Always thank you to Margaux Nodvin for your unwavering support.

Hillmar is thrilled to introduce everyone to Marilyn, our new farm canine mascot.

The passing of our beloved Hope, left everyone at Hillmar deeply saddened and longing for her presence, so we embarked on a journey to find a new furry friend who could seamlessly integrate into our unique dynamic. Marilyn, a 2.5-year-old lab mix, emerged as the perfect match. With her infectious love and lively personality, Marilyn quickly settled into Hillmar and became part of the canine crew. Hillmar expresses immense gratitude to Erik Eveleth and TLC Humane Society for facilitating this wonderful match, making Marilyn a cherished addition to our farm.

Today, we had to say goodbye to one of Hillmar’s true mascots, our beloved Hope.

For over a decade, Hope served as the guardian of Hillmar, ensuring that all the horses, dogs and cats stay on their best behavior. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to keep things in check earned her the affectionate nickname “Karen/Fun Police.”

As the official greeter, she welcomed visitors with a warm smile and a wagging tail (except delivery truck drivers or the poor shavings guy). Additionally, she played a vital role as a vet assistant during equine performance exams, which was one of her favorite tasks. Hope was also an exceptional ball catcher and swimmer, and she provided canine training to any dog that came on property.

Above all, Hope was known for her gentle and loving nature, making her a cherished member of the Hillmar community. Her absence will leave an indelible mark on the farm, and Hillmar will never be the same without her.

Sweet Hope rest in peace and find eternal joy in chasing our horses and playing with our dogs, who are in heaven.🤍

Hillmar Farm is beyond proud of our riders, horses, and Head Trainer, Francine Hammen, for their incredible performances at the GHJA Finals Horse Show where Hillmar sponsored the Medal Finals and dinner. All of our riders and their horses earned ribbons in a highly competitive field, and two riders successfully debuted their new mounts at this show.

The story of Hillmar Farm

Hillmar Farm (formerly Hunter Hill Farm) was purchased back in 2004 by mother/daughter team Sondra and Margaux Nodvin. Extensive renovations and additions to the farm were undertaken immediately to the 85 acre facility. These renovations included replacing all of the exterior of the main barn and storage building, removing the rotting wood and replacing it with Hardiplank. Some of the other renovations we did included adding 6 stalls to the main barn, building a shavings storage shed, installing infrared heaters in the newly renovated indoor wash racks, installing fire alarms in the barns, painting all buildings, building two outdoor wash racks, and adding back doors to the interior row of stalls for safety and convenience. At the time of purchase, there were no arenas at the farm; therefore, we had two arenas expertly installed. One arena is our 150’ x 300’ all-weather footing outdoor arena (which has been completely renovated again at the time of this writing). The other arena began as a covered 100’ x 200’ ft arena. Later renovations included completely enclosing the covered arena for the comfort of our horses and clients during the cold, windy, rainy months. Both arenas were equipped with sprinkler systems, lights, a P.A. system, and viewing areas. Over the years, Hillmar Farm has seen the addition of a 7-stall lesson horse barn, installation of an automatic fly-system, installation of security cameras, creation of additional paddocks, creation of a mini cross-country course, and much, much more.

Officially opening for business in Spring 2005 as a top-notch Hunter/Jumper facility, the Nodvins have spared no effort or expense in offering the best Hunter/Jumper training available, the best updated amenities for horses and clients in North Georgia, as well as ensuring 24/7 care for the horses by knowledgeable, on-site staff. For more than 13 years now, we at Hillmar Farm have continued to strive to provide the best in professional training for boarders, lesson program clients, and IEA/IHSA team members. Most importantly, we have continued to offer the best personalized care for our equine companions. At Hillmar Farm, our motto has always been “the horses come first”. This is why you can find so many happy, healthy horses residing at Hillmar! Happy clients and happy horses are abundant at Hillmar, and we take great pride in this fact. Hillmar Farm is, quite simply, a fantastic place for horses and for riders!
