Luke is a fear-aggressive dog in our rehab camp—and today was his owner’s **first transfer practice**. She walked in the way a lot of owners do at the start: worried, nervous, already scanning for what he *might* do. When you’ve seen your dog react hard before, your body tries to prevent it—tight hands, a “loud” leash, heavy handling, and tension that never really turns off.

But fear-aggressive dogs don’t improve through pressure—they improve through **clarity, timing, and calm leadership**. When an owner is bracing for a blow-up, the dog feels that expectation and it can reinforce the fear: *“Yep… something’s wrong.”* Transfer practice is where we teach the human side of the leash: how to stop training the “what if,” and start leading the “what’s next.”

The win? **This first transfer practice was very successful.** Luke did great—engaged, responsive, and showing real progress. Now the next step is his owner’s confidence and follow-through. Because even when other trainers have failed, we’ve succeeded—but the owner has to be willing to change, let go of old habits, and stop resisting the process.

Rottie’s can be very intimidating because of their size and the bad rep they garnered at one point. Freyja is a sweet girl that sometimes thinks she’s a Golden Retriever (yes she’s goofy too), but is a big and intimidating girl.

Luke came to rehab camp labeled “dangerous” — fear-aggressive, on edge, ready to protect himself because the world never felt safe. And today… we walked into a crowded hardware store together. Not a quiet field. Not a controlled setup. Real life — carts rolling, people everywhere, loud noises, tight aisles.
