Meet Sally, the first recipient of the Veterinary Care Foundation at GVA Emergency Care ❤️

Sally was brought to Gadsden Veterinary Associates Emergency Care after being hit by a car and suffering a traumatic brain injury. She arrived in critical condition and needed immediate emergency treatment and hospitalization to help control severe intracranial swelling and life-threatening neurologic signs.

Like so many families facing unexpected emergencies, Sally’s owners were devastated and unable to afford the extensive emergency care she urgently needed. Sally became a recipient of the Veterinary Care Foundation at GVA Emergency Care to give her a fighting chance.

Sally was immediately admitted and treated aggressively for her traumatic brain injury. Her brain swelling was stabilized, her neurologic signs have shown significant improvement, and thankfully she became strong enough to be discharged to continue her recovery at home with her family.

Sally still has a long road ahead of her, but her progress so far has been truly encouraging. It would not have been possible without the compassion and support of her community.

If you would like to contribute toward Sally’s care or help future emergency patients in need, donations can be made here:

🤍🐾Meet Mabel🐾🤍

Mabel is a 2 year old Basset Hound who came to us after she began vomiting and not acting herself. Our team quickly evaluated her, and radiographs revealed the cause - foreign material obstructing her intestines.

Mabel was taken into emergency surgery right away, where the team successfully removed TWO socks. Thanks to quick action from her family and prompt medical care, she had a full recovery❤️

Abdominal foriegn bodies are more common than pet owners realize and can quickly become life threatening. Symptoms may vary, but often include lethargy, abdominal pain, and vomiting. If you suspect your pet has ingested a non food item, it is best to bring them to your closest veterinary hospital as soon as possible.

" The night we brought Mabel in, she had seemed off. She was not being herself & that evening I noticed she had started shaking oddly. We drove from Guntersville and were seen so quickly and with such care. After moving forward with emergency surgery, it was discovered she had swallowed two socks!! The staff called me as soon as surgery was over, even though it was the middle of the night/early morning hours. Which I was so appreciative of! She recovered quickly and we now have a strict 'no socks' rule in our home" - Mabels mom ✨

Let's give it up for Mabel's string spirit 🐶🤍

Today, we are honored to share something deeply meaningful to our team at Gadsden Veterinary Associates Emergency Care.

Every day, we are called to care for animals in their most critical moments—when seconds matter, emotions run high, and families are facing fear and uncertainty. It is not just our profession; it is our passion and our purpose to stand beside both pets and their owners during these times of need.

Over the past year, we have been humbled by the lives we’ve been able to save and the families we’ve been able to support. But there have also been moments that have stayed with us—the ones where we knew we could help, where treatment was within reach, but financial limitations stood in the way.

Those moments are the reason we’ve created a new foundation.

This fund is dedicated to helping provide emergency medical care for pets whose families simply cannot afford it. Because no one should have to choose between financial hardship and saving a beloved companion.

Bridging this gap is not something we can do alone—it takes a community. And today, we are reaching out to ours.

We invite you to be part of something powerful. Your donation, no matter the size, has the ability to save lives, to give families more time, and to bring hope in moments of despair. 100% of all proceeds will go directly toward providing local animals with the care they need, supporting underprivileged families right here in our community. All donations are tax-deductible.

In the coming months, we look forward to hosting fundraising events to bring our community together around this mission. Until then, donations can be made at any time through the link below.

Together, we can make sure that when an animal needs help, compassion—not cost—determines their chance.

Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us continue the work we feel so deeply called to do.

A house fire occurred in Southside today that unfortunately took the life of the family’s precious dog. We are grateful to have been able to help Southside first responders at the scene in efforts to save the dog’s life. Southside deserves the utmost respect for the heroic efforts they put in to this, and although the outcome is not what we hoped for, we are honored to work by them any day. Please keep the family in your prayers as they navigate the loss of their beloved pet and the damage to their home.
