These boys have me on donkey time—can’t get anything done when the Attention Department is in full swing. Barry Wayne (Head of Hugs) and Buster Brown (Director of Shenanigans) are in a playful mood today, and convincing them to let me work is just not going to happen, lol! Productivity: 0. Donkey morale: 100%. 😂

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday from our goofy rescue horse, Pepper! We just love this girl—she's one big, beautiful bundle of love!

We’re so glad Tongue Out Tuesday exists so we can share her silly moments (and her beauty) with all of you!

It's simply impossible to be grumpy with a horse this adorable! keeping it cute and goofy!

Good morning! It’s a little known fact that before our goats can conquer the day, they must first conquer their morning itches! It's their version of a spa day, complete with the best “tree-tment” in town! Ba-da-boom. 🙃Oh boy, I have a feeling today’s going to be one of those days where I think I’m the goat of comedy!

These three amigos spend their days soaking up the sun, sharing juicy equine gossip, and plotting their next move to score more attention and treats!

Scarlet is the sassy diva who hogs all the spotlight, always pushing the other two out of the way to get all the attention for herself. Faith, the shy one, has been breaking out of her shell thanks to trainer Robert—she’s getting there, one carrot at a time! And then there’s Bentley on the right, who’s ALL about the treats! If he could talk, he’d be shouting, “Treats, treats, TREATS! Is it snack time yet?!” Together, they remind us that hanging with your friends makes every day more fun—and a little crazier!

PEPPER'S TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY!

From skinny and uncertain in December to STUNNING and confident now - our girl Pepper is CRUSHING her rehab goals.

Would you look at this glow-up? When we first met her, she was just a shadow of her potential. The first month or two was very bumpy with lots of uncertainty. But then? She started to turn around and now she's strutting around her new herd like the queen she is!

To all the rehab horses and the incredible humans who never give up on them: You're all warriors, and Pepper is proof that with love, dedication, and unwavering commitment, ANYTHING is possible!

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of David Darnell. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. David and his wife Bonnie, who passed away many years ago, left a touching legacy with us at BHHR through their beloved horses, Chance and Trooper.

Chance was a gentle giant, always caring for the little ones like Sylvie, Shah, Cherry, Angel, Cisco and Ollie, teaching them all he could until he passed at an old age. Trooper adored his ladies—Freedom, Libby, and CJ. Adopted by one of our own, his memory is cherished by many.

We are grateful to have cared for Chance and Trooper and to have supported David's family in their time of need. The love we shared for those remarkable horses is something we hold dearly.

We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has generously donated in memory of David. Your contributions mean the world to us.

We want to share a heartfelt sentiment from one of our generous donors: "This donation is in memory of Davey (David) Darnell, his wife Bonnie, and their two dear horses Chance and Trooper - may they all be at peace, finally together again, forever."

We want to extend another massive thank you to Cowboy Bob, also known as Robert Bova, for dedicating his time and expertise to our BHHR animals! He drives over four hours to get here every few weeks, and the difference he has made for those he’s worked with is truly astounding! How are we ever going to repay him for his kindness? We don’t know! 😳❤️

Faith is making great strides as she begins to accept the halter and is learning important ground manners, including picking up her feet! After years of being hard to catch and unhandled, we are beyond excited to see where this journey takes her!

Jezebel is now letting us halter her! It does take some effort (I think he’s having a tougher time training me—those donkeys sure follow all the cues! 😂). While she is still a work in progress, it’s such a relief to be able to help soothe her legs from those pesky fly bites. And guess what? Today, Cowboy Bob even put fly boots on her—HUGE progress!

We also worked with Murphy again today. Just when I thought she was getting easier to halter, she reminded me to keep my ego in check and take things slow! Hahaha! But thanks to Robert, I learned how to approach this little setback effectively.

While I may not be doing the best job of highlighting Bob's incredible skills and the impact he's had on our animals, we are so grateful for everything he’s done! He’s truly changed the lives of these wonderful beings, and our hearts are full!
