🐾 Piper’s Home Depot field trip! 🐕🦺🛒
Socialization isn’t just about meeting new people and other dogs! It’s also about learning to confidently navigate NEW sights, smells, and sounds in the real world. And Home Depot? It’s an AMAZING training ground! 👏🏼
Today, Piper, the German Shepherd I’m training, got to practice being out in the world while staying connected to me and learning to trust my lead.
✅ Beautiful eye contact
✅ Following my lead
✅ Maintaining a calm follower state
✅ Practicing down stays
✅ Observing new sights and big carts without reacting!
Piper was alert and a little nervous at times, which is completely normal when experiencing something new. The important thing is that she stayed with me, remained non-reactive, and continued to work through the environment. ❤️
With consistent exposure, patience, and leadership, these experiences will become more familiar, and her confidence will continue to grow!
At the end of our session, I rewarded all her hard work with a few pets from calm bystanders. Because rewards should come AFTER the work! 🐾
I’m SO pleased with her progress! Good work, Piper! We’re building confidence, trust, and real-world manners one outing at a time. 🤎
Remember: A well-socialized dog isn’t just friendly. It’s a dog that can remain calm, confident, and connected to its handler in a variety of environments.
